The NHL is back and Saturday afternoon, the Wells Fargo Center proved it. The Wells Fargo Center crowd, wasted no time making their voices heard.  The fans packed the building with orange t-shirts that simply said “Let’s Go!” The game began with the expected “bad hockey”. Both clubs first few shifts were some miscues and some tip-ins.  After the first few minutes, the jitters went away and both clubs, the Penguins picked up the pace. The speed began to pick up, and shortly after that, the Flyers found themselves in a hole.  At 15:20 of the first period, Tyler Kennedy connected on a nice deflection from a point shot off of Paul Martin’s stick. Following some more dismal play and poor power play performances, the Flyers found themselves down 2-0.  A faceoff to the right of Bryzgalov, who looked pretty sharp in the beginning, was handcuffed on a shot off of the draw from James Neal. The second period was much different for the Flyers and the fans.  Just 23 seconds in, a 2 on 1 with Scott Hartnell and Claude Giroux was created.  I think we all know how it ended.  The pass from Hartnell to Giroux was buried between Marc-Andre Fleury’s five hole. Claude Giroux gets the Flyers first goal of the season, which is fitting after last season. The physicality picked up shortly after that.  Every play had a follow up hit, and since then the Flyers physical presence was an A+. The third period was all Flyers, unfortunately it was not enough. The Flyers totaled 27 shots, 11 of them came in the 2nd, 10 came in the3rd.  The Flyers played a strong period, and a solid 2/3 of the game.  Unfortunately for the Flyers, the game is a full 60 minutes, not 40. Although the uninspiring first period wound up killing the Flyers, there were some bright spots.  Wayne Simmonds played a strong game, he made his presence felt through his 22:07 of ice team, which led the team.  Ilya Bryzgalov played a solid game stopping 24 of 26 shots. The second goal was questionable, but James Neal is proving to be a sniper.  Scott Laughton also impressed in his NHL debut, wew ill have to wait to see if he stays on the big club.
