Earlier today the Flyers waived defensemen Matt Walker and collected his $1.7 million dollar salary toward the cap. Walker, who came over in the Simon Gagne deal with a pick from Tampa Bay, was really never meant to be any more than depth along the blue line, became expendable when Chris Pronger came back from his own injury. Plus, he was hurt most of the year with two separate hip injuries, so I'm sure that didn't help his case much, either.But almost as soon as they let the D-man go, rumors started to swirl about a possible trade. Erik Cole, a 32-year old winger is speculated to be on a collision course with his former coach (a.k.a. Mr. Laviolette) with whom he won a Stanley Cup with in 2006. Obviously with the most wins in the league (33) and tied with most points (71), Philadelphia is hardly struggling.
