Former Flyers Forward Named AHL Player of the Week

The Philadelphia Flyers just keep winning, even when they aren’t playing a game.

The American Hockey League announced Monday that Flyers prospect Tanner Laczynski would be named the AHL Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 19.

Laczynski, 26, scored three goals, two assists, and five points in two games last week. He becomes the second Lehigh Valley Phantoms forward to earn the honor this season, as fellow forward Olle Lycksell also did so for the week ending Oct. 22.

Laczynski played parts of each of the last three seasons with the Flyers, but was unable to make the team out of training camp this season. The former sixth-round pick has two goals, two assists, and four points in 38 career NHL games. He’s been much more prolific in the AHL, racking up 43 points in 57 career appearances – including 13 points in 13 games this year.

Currently, the 26-year-old is on pace to score 22 goals, 48 assists, and 70 points in 70 games.

The last time two Phantoms players were named AHL Player of the Week was back in the 2014-15 season, when current Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton, and Nick Cousins, were bestowed the award. Because Cooper Marody was an AHL Player of the Week back on March 13, this marks the second occasion in Phantoms history where three players received the honor in the same calendar year.

The first instance was in 2001, when Tomas Divisek, Neil Little, and Mark Greig represented the Philadelphia Phantoms.

Laczynski will have a chance to continue his blazing form later this week, with matchups against the Toronto Marlies, Providence Bruins, and Rochester Americans on tap. After Thanksgiving, the Phantoms will be off until Dec. 1.
