According to ClickonDetroit.com, former Red Wings forward Shawn Burr has passed away. He was only 47-years old. Burr, who had been battling cancer for the past three years suffered a fall at his home this past weekend before being admitted to a Detroit area hospital. After being drafted 7th overall in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft by Detroit, Burr went on to play 11 season with the Wings with his best year coming in 1989-90 when he compiled 24 goals and 32 assists in 76 games. He eventually went on to play for Tampa Bay then San Jose closing out a 16 year NHL career with 181 goals and 259 assists. Burr was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia in 2010 and had the disease in remission for several months before it returned  last year. h/t: Detroit Free Press (image)
