Filip Forsberg is on his way to Nashville from Sweden in an attempt to make his National Hockey League debut with the Nashville Predators Sunday night against rival Detroit Red Wings at 6:30pm CST on NBC Sports Network. The 18 year old was involved in a April 3 trade with the Washington Capitals, where the Caps received Michael Latta and Martin Erat in return. The main reason for general manager David Poile pushing Forsberg into the lineup before the season ends is because he desperately wants to know what he has in his system. Poile, along with the entire fanbase in Smashville, are interested to see how Forsberg plays and if he can make a quick transition from the International game to the North American style. With only six games remaining in the season, if Forsberg dresses in all of them, he will burn off a year of his entry level deal worth 3 years, $2,775,000. So with that being the case, don't expect Barry Trotz to dress him in every game until the end of the season. Recently, Forsberg was with Team Sweden practicing for the 2013 World Championships being held in Helsinki and Stockholm in May. According to a few European hockey experts, it is possible he will represent his country in the WMC after the NHL season. However, Poile was able to convince Forsberg to come to the Music City for the final weeks of the season to get the NHL feel. "Anyone can play a game," said Poile talking to Forsberg on the phone, "but we're looking for a career. We're looking for you to play a lot years here." There has been a lot of conflicting reports of what position he plays. Many scouts say he is a winger, others say center. Poile believes he will play right wing with the Predators, but can ease into the center position when necessary. Forsberg will wear the number nine in his NHL debut.
