It took a big break for the Carolina Hurricanes to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 on Thursday. It also took another big pushback and third-period comeback. In a bizarre twist the Leafs lost starting goaltender James Reimer to an injury 32 seconds into the game. Even more startling was the way the Canes scored the winning goal. With the score tied 2-2 Canes defenseman Ron Hainsey whipped the puck off the boards and out of the Carolina zone. Nearly everyone in the Air Canada Centre including Leafs coach Randy Carlyle believed icing would be called against the Canes. But Canes forward Radek Dvorak didn't give up on the puck. Racing down the ice he beat Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly to the face-off dot in the left circle to nullify icing as the puck took a wicked kick off the end boards. Then an even more stunning turn: goalie Jonathan Bernier who entered the game when Reimer was hurt had the puck go off the end boards off his skate at the post and into the net with six minutes ...
