The LA Kings and Anaheim Ducks will meet at Dodgers Stadium (photo made using Fotor.com)
Just like Tupac, the NHL and Coors Light are going to show the West Coast some “California Love”. As per NHL.com Commissioner Gary Bettman has announced that the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks will meet outside in Dodgers Stadium on January 25th 2014. This is the second game announced in the series with the first being the Penguins and Blackhawks and Soldier Field in Chicago on March 1st of the same year.

Commissioner Bettman said at a press conference that this game will bring the game of hockey in Southern California and the League’s Outdoor games “to bold new heights.” Kings President of Business Operations Luc Robitaille, who had played in LA on three separate occasions is proud to be apart of the event. ”This will be a sporting event like no other that has ever been seen in Southern California…”
The Kings/Ducks rivalry dates all the way back to 1993 when the Anaheim Mighty Ducks (as they were called) joined the league just 80 miles south of the City of Angels. Since then, both teams have been crowned Stanley Cup champions (Anaheim in 07 , and LA last season).
The Kings, however, are no strangers to games outside. Along with the New York Rangers, the Kings played in the very first outdoor game in the NHL; an exhibition game in Las Vegas in 1991.
BEST OF MAXIM
Three games into their series with Detroit, the Ducks hold a two to one lead. In both wins, goalie Jonas Hiller looked superb. However, in their sole loss, he looked like the shaky playoff goalie he once was. Some doubt coach Boudreau’s decision to stick with Hiller going into game three with rookie Viktor Fasth waiting on the bench. Yet that’s why the coach is a proven winner...
THAT'S GOTTA HURT
Niklas Kronwall sent a jolt through a rowdy Joe Louis Arena crowd with one of his trademark hits on the Anaheim Ducks’ Kyle Palmieri. About 13 minutes into the first period of the Detroit Red Wings’ 3-2 overtime victory, Kronwall stepped up and leveled Palmieri with a legal hit along the boards. No penalty was called — a welcome sight after Justin Abdelkader was given a five...
The Anaheim Ducks came out a put to rest any lingering misconceptions about playing in Detroit, thanks in part to a convincing 4-0 win in game 3 of their Western Conference Quarterfinals match-up with the Red Wings.
The Ducks used two power-play goals, a shorty and an even strength goal to reclaim a 2-1 series lead headed into tonight's must win game 4 for the Wings.
The Anaheim Ducks had a golden opportunity to put their Western Conference Quarterfinal series with the Detroit Red Wings on ice. Instead we head back to Anaheim tied and folks... we are going to have ourselves a loooooong series.
Anaheim relinquished 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the third period before succumbing to the Wings on a Damien Brunner goal with 4:50 left in the first overtime...
Ryan Getzlaf knows the Anaheim Ducks could be getting frustrated.
Instead, he thinks they're just getting started.
The Ducks have controlled long stretches of their matchup with Detroit, outscoring the Red Wings over the first four games while getting superior goaltending from Jonas Hiller. Yet the series is even heading into Game 5 on Wednesday night at Honda Center.
Justin Abdelkader's hit on Toni Lydman late in the second period of Game 3 was the turning point. He received a five-minute major and a game misconduct as a result. The Ducks then scored 18 seconds into the power play to go up 1-0.
That was all the Ducks would need, but they added some Aflac with another three goals in the third period. Goodbye, home ice; it was nice having...
After the Ducks and Red Wings split the first two games in Anaheim, the series headed to Detroit. Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf was asked by the media if the goal was to win one of the two games in Detroit to regain home ice advantage.
"We're going there to win two," was the captain's response.
It was not a cocky or arrogant reply, but one of confidence...
Cheer up, Blues fans. The NHL doesn't even know who the Kings are. Amazingly, those in charge of the NHL's Twitter account referred to the Anaheim Ducks twice after LA's Game 4 win. They even tagged Anaheim's official Twitter.
Looks like not even winning a Cup will earn respect for a team out in California.
No Photoshop here. I was lucky enough to catch...
This could be a long series. With Detroit taking game four in overtime, the series between the Ducks and Red Wings is tied at two. Game five is going to be huge, because whoever wins only needs one more. Whoever loses has to win the next two.
If Anaheim is going to win game five, they are going to have to get more effort from some of their players. After the loss in...
Hockey fans in southern California will have an opportunity to watch some of their favorite NHL stars next year in possible 80-plus degree temperatures from the great outdoors when the Los Angeles Kings play host to the Anaheim Ducks at Dodger Stadium on Jan. 25, 2014.
The event is part of the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series, in which the NHL plans to play a number...
