With brother Mikko already in the fold as the team's Finnish scout and having once signed Jarkko to a three-year contract, USA Today's Kevin Allen believes that Ottawa is looking to complete the natural Ruutu hat-trick by trading for Tuomo Ruutu at this year's Trade Deadline, stating, "The Senators are looking for offensive help, and Ruutu seems to be their primary target."Not to discount the possibility that Bryan Murray called and inquired on what it would take to land such a player, I find it more than convenient that someone or some organization would leak Ottawa's 'alleged' interest to help drive up his worth in trade negotiations with another organization. Especially when this trade interest conflicts directly with the statements that owner Eugene Melnyk made to the Team 1200 during the All-Star Game weekend that dismissed the organization's intent to foresake the future for a rental player and short-sighted run at the playoffs. Undoubtedl...

Monday debate: next move with Ruutu
A week ago, some hockey "insiders" were saying a Tuomo Ruutu trade was "imminent."
A week later, there's talk Canes general manager Jim Rutherford may be negotiating a contract extension for the hard-charging forward, who's due to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
Question: when all is said and done, which will it be? Will Ruutu be traded...
Stewart, Ruutu and the Hurricanes Future
As of this moment we have yet to find out if Anthony Stewart has cleared the waiver wire.
I personally like Stewart and hope he stays, though I am wondering if he has a role in Mullers system. Of the moves Jim Rutherford made this past summer the Tim Brent and Stewart signings were the ones I felt would truely impact the team. While Stewart is falling short of his performace last...
Rangers Interested in Ruutu
Bob McKenzie at TSN reports that the Rangers are one of a number of teams interested in the Hurricanes' Tuomo Ruutu.McKenzie feels Ruutu is the type of Top 9 forward that could play coach John Tortorella's demanding style.According to McKenzie, Carolina's asking price for Ruutu is a significant draft pick and a solid prospect or a top prospect alone.Ruutu, who has 16g...
Nash reassigned to Checkers
The Canes have reassigned forward Riley Nash to the Charlotte Checkers (AHL).
Nash, 22, played three games with the Hurricanes following his Jan. 30 recall. He has recorded one assist and averaged 10:34 of ice time in five games for the Hurricanes this season.
Nash has scored six goals and earned 12 assists in 41 games with the Checkers this season.
Hurry up and Wait – Hurricanes Trade Rumors
Quick programing note: I was planning on writing a bit after the Gleason signing but the site appears to have been down for a few days. Since that signing I kept hearing of other possible trades for the Hurricanes ready to strike. My plan was to write an all encompassing piece once something went down… as we all know it was a week of ‘hurry up and wait,’ though...
Hurricane Watch: Early Preview of the Carolina Hurricanes Trade Deadline
With the early season movements of Tomas Kaberle and Alexei Ponikarovsky and the Hurricanes placing Anthony Stewart on waivers Monday, all signs point to the Hurricanes making noise at the trade deadline at the end of February. Jim Rutherford has already set the bar high on the price tag for forward Tuomo Ruutu and plenty of teams are biting at the offers. Here is some early expectations...
Canes taking extra bodies out West
The Canes are headed West and they'll be taking a few extra bodies along.
Chad LaRose, out the past two games with flu-like symptoms, was at practice today at the RBC Center. LaRose is ready to rejoin the lineup, but Canes coach Kirk Muller said an extra forward likely would be on the three-game trip to Anaheim, Colorado and Montreal.
The Canes also have an extra defenseman....
Hurricanes Weekly Report 1/31 - 2/5
This was certainly a strange week for the Canes when you compare their shot data to scoring chances because while they were heavily outshot this past week, they actually outchanced their opponents overall. A large reason for this is because of the 47-save shutout they had against the Bruins last Thursday. That was a game where they were outshot by a wide-margin but a lot of the Bruins...
Muller vs. Maurice: Player Deployment
One of the fun things you can do when your team changes coaches about a quarter way through the season is compare how the new guy is performing compared to who is replacing. The general consensus among Carolina fans is that new coach Kirk Muller is doing a fantastic job and is more suited for this team than Paul Maurice. Despite those claims, the Hurricanes performance under Muller...
Making Sense Of The Tuomo Ruutu Rumor
TSN’s Bob McKenzie is reporting that the Rangers have significant interest in Carolina Hurricanes’ winger Tuomo Ruutu. Ruutu is another guy in the Ryan Smyth mold, one that would make sense for the Rangers as he fits into their style of play. According to McKenzie, the cost for Ruutu is “a significant draft pick and a solid prospect or a top prospect alone.”...

Que the Trade Rumors
It's that wonderfully entertaining time of year again, and although I am making reference to the NHL Trade Deadline when I say that, I'm not talking about the actual day (February 27) itself. Rather, I'm referring to the three weeks leading up to the trade deadline in which the ever so interesting rumors begin to stir up around the interwebs throughout the world of hockey...
