Ryan Jones had a night to remember last night, as he was a major player in a big third period comeback for the Edmonton Oilers. Jones has 8 goals currently, tied for 53rd in the NHL. I can show these numbers aren't sustainable, but what is? Entering this NHL season, Jones had scored 33 NHL goals on 251 shots. That's 13.5 per cent, which is an excellent total. Not Craig Simpson, but 13.5 would keep you in the league a long time. This year, Jones is shooting at 22.5%, which would rank him in the top 100 seasons of all-time. Jones is a mature player (27) but we don't have seven seasons to look back on as evidence of his shooting ability. His college numbers were very good and he's finding the range in the NHL, pushing his totals higher. Is Ryan Jones on track for a 30-goal season? His 22.5% shooting percentage says no. However, his underlying numbers--the same numbers that told us he had luck on his side-show him to be winning the day despite a horrific zone start (38....

All Admiration, All of the Time For Smyth
If you were to ask most Oiler fans who their favourite Oiler is, you will likely hear the name Ryan Smyth. If you also ask who they think the team MVP is the answer would likely be the same; Ryan Smyth. G26 Jackets at Oilers
The legend of RNH is beginning to find voice through stories. The other day on tsn, it was mentioned that NAS coach Barry Trotz chastised veteran Mike Fisher by saying "you know he's outplaying you!" to which the veteran replied "you know he's pretty good, right?" RNH is among the top 5 scorers in the NHL. Lordy. In the thread below there was some gentle...

Prospect #8: Curtis Hamilton
Curtis Hamilton reminds me of the Montreal Canadiens of my youth. While my favorite team (Boston Bruins) would draft guys like Mike Bloom and Al Secord (basically Lucic types), the Habs would select a bunch of "two-way" forwards and a "checker" or two. Curtis Hamilton is a "Hab-type" prospect right from the Del Wilson playbook. Winter 2011: #8Summer...

Friday night's Oilers/Blue Jackets game will go down in history as one of Edmonton's most brilliant performances. A 7-0, completely one-sided victory over the struggling Columbus Blue Jackets.
