Record: Lightning (9-7-2) Devils (9-7-1)

Previous games this season: None

Game time: 7:00pm EDT on CW44

Big win on Thursday night over the Pens. We are on a six game home win streak and tonight is another night at home. From what I remember from last season over the Devils, the Devils had our number. I think they won 3 out of the 4 games we played. I'm not sure how they are playing this year because I haven't paid attention, but their record is pretty much the same as our if that is any indication.

On the injury news for the Lightning, Ryan Malone is backin the lineup tonight. And since our defence always needs help, some positive news is that Mattias Ohlund skated with the team for the first time today since his surger in a red no-contact jersey. It will still be a week or two at least before he plays but this is encouraging news. Even if you hate him because he's rather slow, Ohlund still helps our defence.

Random stat that is blowing my mind: Marc-Andre Bergeron enters the game tonight tied for second in the NHL among defensemen for points

And interesting note by Mike Corcoran's twitter is that there is a LA Kings scout in attendance tonight at the game.

Go bolts

Line-up Notes:

  • Roloson will get the start in goal
  • Blair Jones and Bruno Gervais are scratched

Tampa Bay Lightning: Should Guy Boucher Coach To Win or Coach To Entertain?

Coaching strategy isn't talked about much in the hockey world, but with the recent buzz surrounding the Tampa Bay Lightning, I thought it would be nice to dig into the situation. Its called a 1-3-1 forecheck, an ultra defensive system utilized by Coach Boucher for Tampa Bay Lightning. And it's creating a stir around the league. In inner NHL circles, it's just a part...

Bolts hope home success translates on road

Now all the Tampa Bay head coach Guy Boucher and his team have to do is find a way to bottle this kind of lightning and unleash it on the road. Once again, the Bolts proved they can take care of business against the leagues elite, as evidenced by their decisive 4-1 victory Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins came into the St. Pete Times Forum leading the...

John Toperzer: Deja Vu all over again? Pens lose to Lightning

Déjà vu all over again? Pens lose 4-1 to Tampa Bay on Thursday Follow me on Twitter @JohnToperzer On the surface it looks like the Lightning handled the Penguins easily for their fourth straight win over Pittsburgh – dating back to the playoffs. Dwayne Roloson made all the saves and then some, Vincent Lecavalier scored a pair of goals, and Tampa Bay held Pittsburgh’s...

Movember: Rating the Lightning Effort

I had a friend comment to me the other day that Movember has been bigger than ever this year. Movember only made its appearance in our lives a few years ago, but each year it seems to keep picking up steam. Everywhere I go I see men on buses, in bars, on the street with dusters left, right and center. Friends of mine keep posting creepy photos on their twitter and Facebook that make...

Devils 4, Lightning 2

Martin Brodeur held the Tampa Bay Lightning scoreless for 51 minutes, David Clarkson had a goal and an assist, and the New Jersey Devils hung on for a 4-2 victory Saturday night. Brodeur lost out on a bid to extend his NHL record to 117 shutouts when Martin St. Louis scored from in-close and cut the Lightning's deficit to 3-1 at 8:24 of the third period. Brodeur made 21 saves...
