What We Think of the Avalanche: I still hate the Avs for the 2001 defeat in the Finals but that’s ancient history at this point. The current Avs are a team that is struggling to win games. Surprisingly, the reason I think they are struggling is due to the man that is supposed to be stopping pucks from going in the net. The Avs spent a 1st round pick in trading for Semyon Varlamov over the summer and the guy has been downright horrible. Apparently though, the whole entire team is filled with a bunch of girls, but I’ll get to that in a minute.. What To Expect Tonight: Put the Islanders game behind us. It was a BAD call made by the guys in Toronto and we were cheated out of a point. Instead of dwelling on that fact, let’s get fired up about it and stick it to a bad Avs team. Hopefully that call will lig...

With Stefan Elliott having another outstanding game tonight, along with the rest of his team, the big question I have is: who’s gonna sit when Erik Johnson comes back?
Let’s start with the premise that Elliott can NOT be one of the current top six defensemen who sit with EJ comes back, possibly Friday night against his old team, St. Louis.
Unless the Avs’...
Just 12 skaters and two goalies participated in this morning’s skate at the Pepsi Center in preparation for tonight’s game against the New Jersey Devils. Among the participants were left wing Peter Mueller and defenseman Erik Johnson. Both are on injured reserve and Avs coach Joe Sacco said neither will be activated today.
Mueller and EJ were unavailable for comment. Those not...
A 6-1 blowout loss on Wednesday night at the hands of Colorado has the Devils sinking even further towards the bottom of the Atlantic Division.
Milan Hejduk started the scoring early for the Avalanche when he found the back of the net for the eighth time this season at 7:37, registering his 15th point in 15 career games against the Devils. The next Colorado goal came less than...

Avalanche coach Joe Sacco will again shake up his lines in search of more offense in tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils at the Pepsi Center.
Not too exciting a day down at Avalanche headquarters. Avs went through a regular practice, and had a meeting afterward. But it wasn’t a team meeting to talk about their latest problems on the ice, it was an NHL security meeting.
Basically, the Avs watched a video concerning the realities of today’s smartphone age. The message can be boiled down to: watch what you text, watch...
Fifteen years separate 35-year-old winger Milan Hejduk from center Ryan O'Reilly, but the Avalanche forwards thought and played like twins Wednesday night.
Ryan O'Reilly had a goal and two assists, Semyon Varlamov made 18 saves, and the Colorado Avalanche beat the New Jersey Devils 6-1 on Wednesday night.

Since coach Ken Hitchcock took over behind the bench Nov. 8, St. Louis is 8-1-2.
Patience is a virtue.
The New Jersey Devils have made patience a new trend in 2011, as many of their star players have struggled to find consistency despite a 12-9-1 record.
Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise have combined for only 10 goals through 22 games, and the team has relied on the leadership of Patrik Elias and rookie Adam Henrique to carry the goal-scoring thus far. Parise...
