2011-12 Game 30
Pittsburgh Penguins (16-9-4, 36 points) at New York Islanders (9-11-6, 24 points)
Why does it matter?
The Isles will get a taste of the Pens without Sid, after they were thoroughly trounced when he returned. It shouldn't matter - the Pens have dominated the Isles in recent history, and their power play has been a big reason why - it has been clicking at over 20% over the past few seasons against the Isles.
What has been happening lately?
Pens - Another inconsistent effort against the Flyers on Thursday.
Islanders - They're hot - going 4-0-2 in their past six games with wins over Dallas, Tampa Bay, New Jersey and Buffalo (and two losses in overtime against Chicago).
That's all I have time for today - Let's Go Pens!

DON'T BE RIDICULOUS!
Thanks to Benson for sending over his latest. About 2 months ago, we watched as he mashed the Steelers with the Family Matters theme. Now it's the Pens' Sid and Geno as Perfect Strangers. TGIF IS BACK BABY!
I can't wait for what goes with Step By Step in the future. Christine Lakin, one of my all-time crushes, needs to be in it as she appears today. I'll gladly...
And the plan for Sidney Crosby is ...?

Sidney Crosby stood the hockey world on its collective head just three weeks ago, scoring two goals and four points in his epic comeback game against the New York Islanders. Right off the hop he showed the unbelievable speed, skill and determination that's made him the NHL's best player. He...
The New York Islanders had the misfortune of being front and center for Sidney Crosby's first game back, but the Pittsburgh Penguins superstar won't be on the ice for Saturday's rematch on Long Island.
Given the Islanders' dismal recent history against Pittsburgh, Crosby's absence might not matter.
The Penguins look for a fifth straight victory and 19th in 23...
The Philadelphia Flyers tangled with the Sidney Crosby-less Pittsburgh Penguins last night, winning 3-2, which not only vaulted them past Pittsburgh to first place in the Atlantic Division, but also left them atop the Eastern Conference. The Flyers success has had a lot to do with the emergence of center Claude Giroux, who’s leading the NHL in scoring, and apparently has the...

Thursday night was another, in what’s becoming an alarming
trend, of Penguins’ slow starts. It seems like every game the Pens are coming
out flat for the majority of the first two periods and spotting teams multiple
goal leads. Sure a come from behind win is great, and the comeback really gets
the team’s and crowd’s adrenaline pumping, but with a lineup that is missing
James Neal scored twice, and Pascal Dupuis had the go-ahead goal with 4:02 left in the second period to help the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the New York Islanders 6-3 on Saturday night.
Steve Sullivan, Matt Cooke and Paul Martin added goals for the Penguins, who snapped a two-game losing streak. David Ullstrom, Milan Jurcina and Kyle Okposo scored for New York.
Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said Jordan Staal sustained a lower-body injury Thursday in Philadelphia and is listed as day-to-day.
It was kind of weird playing the same Eastern Conference opponent twice in 7 days. This time, the Hawks traveled to New York to face off against the Islanders. Entering the contest, a couple of things stood out. Toews was on top of the leader board in the NHL in goals. Kane, who recently rejoined the Hawks Captain on the first line, was in the top spot in assists. (Again, I like...
So what happened?
Crosby or no Crosby - the Pens have had two good indications over the past two games that they have some work to do if they want to be considered one of the top teams in the East.
The Pens started out well for the first few shifts, and then the wheels fell off of the wagon. By the time the wagon was repaired, the Pens were down 3-0 and had a hole to...

Center Jordan Staal missed Saturday's game against the New York Islanders with what the team called a "lower-body injury." The injury is not believed to be serious.
UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Center Jordan Staal will miss the Penguins' game against the New York Islanders tonight at Nassau Coliseum because of an unspecified injury, but defenseman Deryk Engelland will return to the lineup after missing the past two games.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) The Penguins lost Sidney Crosby, then lost first place in the East.
The Penguins claim they aren't cursed. Maybe it only feels that way.
