2011-12 Game 47 Montreal Canadiens (17-21-8, 42 points) at Pittsburgh Penguins (25-17-4, 54 points) Cool card. These are similar to the Upper Deck Masterpieces that were out a few years back. Why does it matter? This is the last game against a crappy opponent for about a month. The upcoming scheduled is much tougher, so the Pens need to make hay while the sun is shining on them. The Habs are struggling with their offense. The way the Pens have controlled the flow of the game lately, I don't see that getting much better for them. What has been happening lately? Pens - Malkin (and his line mates) have been carrying the team during this four game winning streak. Canadiens - They're just 4-10-1 since December 13th. They've lost four of the past five games overall. Questions to be answered Can we get some offense from one of the other lines? Richard Park has two big goals recently...

Habs/Pens, Leafs preview, Spacek speaks out, Rumours and more

Morning puck addicts! The Montreal Canadiens lost again last night. That's not really anything too surprising given their play of late. But what makes this win more painful was the 4-2 lead the Habs held to start the third period. And this despite being outshot 22-18 through two periods. Ouch. But the Pens turned it on in the third as the Habs now patented third period...

Habs Roundup: Pacioretty, Subban Trade, Price Contract, PP woes and more

So the Montreal Canadiens lost yet another game last night. This time to the struggling Washington Capitals who were missing top defenseman Mike Green, among others, and who was playing backup goalie Michael Neuvirth. Still, Montreal was unable to score, getting shutout 3-0 and going a brutal 0-for-7 on the powerplay. Yikes! The swooning powerplay continues to be one the...

Montreal: backs against the wall

If the Habs have faced a must win all year, this is it. Backs against the wall? They’re through them. Meanwhile, turmoil in Montreal. I said the seats were becoming emptier, and people called me crazy. Well, now many articles and pundits are commenting on hundreds, if not thousands, of empty seats at the Bell Centre each game. Scalpers can’t sell their tickets. Montrealers...

Former Hab Spacek calls the team a “mess” & “circus”

The tumultuous season continues for the slumping Montreal Canadiens as they still remain 9 points out of a playoff spot sitting in 12th place in the Eastern Conference. Much has been said about the team ...

Game 48: Habs/Leafs

Classic 11-12 Canadiens. Take a 4-2 lead into the third period and blo it all to eventually lose in OT. I couldn’t watch last night due to a family function, but something tells me that I didn’t need to see it go down to understand what happened. Frankly, I had no illusions that an immaculate run for the playoffs was possible, even though I harbour no ill-will to those...

A Lost Season?

from Mike Boone of Hockey Inside/Out, How bad is it? You had to stay up late to gauge precisely how bad things are for your Montreal Canadiens. Had the Florida lost in regulation time to the Avalanche in Denver, the Panthers would have dropped to eighth place in the Eastern Conference with 51 points. That would have left the Canadiens a mere nine points out of a playoff spot....
