Fresh off a well deserved 4-1 loss on the Rock, the Flyers get a chance to quickly make amends when they host the New Jersey Devils for the final time this regular season tonight at the Wells Fargo Center.
I find it funny that I’m still having a hard time grasping the reality of the Devil’s strong play this season – especially considering their track record for success – but they were quite impressive on Sunday. Just when you think you can start to write off Brodeur in your head, he goes 4 straight games with only one goal against and 3 wins. More importantly, Volchenkov and the Devils team defense were able to hold the Flyers potent, yet suddenly sporadic offense to a measly 19 shots – the fourth fewest they’ve allowed all season.
If the Flyers want to be serious about the playoffs, they’ll have to learn to overcome these droughts tough defensive matchups. More on our neighbors to the immediate north (and slight east) after the jump.Continue reading "Game 69: NJD @ PHI: Vo...

From Rich Chere of The Star-Ledger:
1. John McMullen
Having grown up in Jersey City and moved to Montclair in his high school years, McMullen was a passionate New Jerseyan. Nevertheless, he threatened to move the team to Nashville and Hamilton, Ont., when he perceived a lack of local support. Former Devils remember annual dinners for the team at his home, where priceless paintings...

Last night the New Jersey Devils took on the Philadelphia Flyers at 'The Rock' and came out with a big 4-1 win over their division rivals. Here are some notes the Atlantic Division, last night's game and Ilya Kovalchuk, among others.
- This stat you're about to read is absolutely mind boggling: The Devils are fourth in the Atlantic Division with 85 points, yet...
The Toronto Maple Leafs have spent years searching for a top-six forward with superstar abilities, and some would tell you that Zach Parise of the New Jersey Devils is a player they have had their eye on for quite some time.
However, according to Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun, Parise has no interest in playing for the Maple Leafs whatsoever. From Simmons:
Zach Parise has told...
Let's not mix words: If Ryan Suter and Zach Parise hit free agency, they will be the belle of the ball. Both players are in their prime, hard-working and generally represent everything a general manager craves when assembling a roster. The real question is: How much will those executives be willing to pony up?Parise is currently on a lucrative one-year contract worth $6 million...
The New Jersey Devils fell to the Philadelphia Flyers in the second game of a home-and-home series tonight by a score of 3-0. After a strong defensive first period, the Devils had a hard time getting anything going offensively. Flyers' goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov collected his fourth shutout in five games; the Flyers now sit alone in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 87...

Brendan Shanahan went on WEEI this morning to talk about his job and what he and the NHL are trying to accomplish. Good stuff, but goold ol' Shanny comes off as being Brad Marchand obsessed. From WEEI:“We had a conversation with Peter Chiarelli on the phone after the low hit on Emelin, which I didn’t think was as low as Salo. I didn’t think deserved a suspension,” he...
This is a suspension:
And this isn't:
Glad to know.**** off Shanahan.
As of 6:30pm EDT, Brendan Shanahan has yet to pass down his verdict on whether of not Tyler Myers will be suspended for his hit from behind on Scott Gomez.
Myers had his phone hearing with Shanahan at 1pm EDT on Tuesday.
The question now is whether Myers intended to hit his opponent from behind.
Today, after practice, Lindy ruff defended Myers by saying that he felt like...
