Pittsburgh Penguins (2-1-0) @ Winnipeg Jets (1-1-1) ROOT, TSN, 8:00 pm/et MTS Centre - Winnipeg, MB Winnipeg, Manitoba. It's cold there. It's also in Canada. We all know that. Apparently, some Winnipeg fans thought that those two things were enough to make the Atlanta Thrashers a competitive hockey team. So did team management. A lot of people spent first year of the team being in Winnipeg telling the world that Teemu Selanne and Shane Doan would soon be coming "home" despite the fact that they never played for this franchise. When they weren't trying to distract people from the fact that this current incarnation of the Jets is the same team that has never won a playoff game despite being in the NHL since 1999, they came up with some cute chants about Sidney Crosby and Jordan Staal.  Last year the Jets missed the playoffs. Again. Apparently they needed to do a little bit more than move to a different city. Playing in a cold Canadian town doesn't change the fact that these the Atlanta Thrashers and, therefore, they're not really good at hockey as it currently stands. A little note on the Jets' crowd by former Jet Tanner Glass (when he was still with the Jets.): Forward Tanner Glass wasn’t thrilled when fans chanted “Crosby’s Better” during Friday's game against the Washington Capital when Capitals' forward Alex Ovechkin hit the ice. “I don’t like that stuff. I don’t have time for that,” Glass said Saturday after the Jets practised. “Cheer for a guy or even against him but, I don’t know, I think that’s a bit much. … I wouldn’t be chanting it.” Glass said it’s up to fans to decide what to do. “You can say it if you want. I’m not going to condemn it, but it’s not something I would be saying,” he added. Your own players are annoyed by the smug attitudes of some of the fans. That takes a lot.   Season Series: 0-0-0 Last meeting that counted: March 20, 2012. Penguins won 8-4. What we said in our recap: The Penguins probably played their worst game in like three weeks, and they put up 8 goals. Things went from looking like a Atlantic Division hangover to a 8-4 drubbing of the Winnipeg Jets. Evgeni Malkin, James Neal, and Sidney Crosby combined for 13 points. Know Your Enemy: Jets Nation What they're saying: Apparently Olli Jokinen landed in Winnipeg after his second stint ended in Calgary this off-season. And now he's playing with Evander Kane in the Jets top six and has already collected an impressive 0 points in three games played. As a native Flames fan I have naturally had many years (on more than one occasion) to observe Olli's foibles as an NHL player and I feel it's my duty to report to his new fans just what kind of player Jokinen is. To start, I can safely say he's a bit like the proverbial Frogurt. Pittsburgh Penguins Notes: Sidney Crosby is in Winnipeg. Sidney Crosby is in Winnipeg. Sidney Crosby is in Winnipeg.
