The NHL and its Players Association avoided the second lost season in a decade when the two sides agreed on a new CBA early on Sunday morning. Much of the scorn, as it should, was directed at commissioner Gary Bettman. There is not one person who is a hockey fan, that believes he is good for the sport. There isn’t even much belief from the owners. But the fans and players do not care one iota for this man. That is why Bettman opened his press conference on Wednesday by doing the unthinkable for him. Apologizing.   “I’m sorry,” Bettman said. “I know an apology or explanation isn’t enough, but I owe you an apology. I read the letters, I followed the tweets. I read the blogs. We have a lot of work to do. … That effort begins today.” “It’s my responsibility to them to make it right,” he said.
