PLAYERS: Gary Bettman
The Capitals and Blackhawks kicked off the 2013-2014 season with a fantastically exciting 6-4 tilt in favor of Chicago, but it appears that not everybody enjoyed the riveting action. A fan snapped this picture of NHL commish Gary Bettman appearing to take a quick power nap during the season opener. There’s always the chance that this is just a non-flattering shot of Bettman mid-blink but, since this is the Internet, there will be no benefit of the doubt given here. Gary Bettman: 1993-Present

Tonight was opening night of the 2013-2014 season. The Chicago Blackhawks had a very impressive Cup ceremony which included saluting the players, coaches, staff, front office and even….Commissioner Gary Bettman. Now let me set the scene for you! All the Gary Bettman interviews you can handle (and more?)

For those of you unfamiliar with the CBC outside of Hockey Night in Canada, Peter Mansbridge, host of The National, is kind of like Tom Brokaw and Walter Kronkite wrapped into one, an incredibly, incredibly respected broadcaster, and when he sits down with people on Canada's nightly newscast, it's a big deal. Mansbridge sat down with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman on Monday...

Gary Bettman Reads, Ken Holland Reads Between The Lines

As summer drew to its conclusion many around the NHL were finishing up their summer readings at their cottages. Our imp commissioner, Li'l Gary Bettman, was reviewing the classic self-help book "How to Win Friends and Influence People" and wondering where it all went so wrong for him.  His boy-toy Sydney Rosby was dressing up as a vampire with sparkles and live action...

Column: 'Like turning around an aircraft carrier'

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By JIM LITKE AP Sports Columnist As the Stanley Cup championship banner climbed toward the rafters on a raucous opening night, Gary Bettman allowed himself a brief smile. On this night, at least, he looked every bit the man in complete command of his sport, instead of the accidental commissioner he's sometimes portrayed as. Just a year ago, no one dared...

Morning Line Part 2

It is no longer enough to blame the continued existence of fighting on NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, the board of governors, or uneducated American hockey fans. Truth is, we love the gore as much as the Americans. We are rapidly reaching the point where, if change isn’t wanted by the players and their agents – the latter a group that always seems to skate away from responsibility...

After The George Parros Incident, We Need To Reconsider Fighting In The NHL

The NHL returned Tuesday night on the same day that the United States government shut down, or should we say, locked out its workers. Gary Bettman must have felt some vindication. The opening games showcased the good and bad of the current league. Coming out of the lockout (lockout? What lockout?) the Chicago Blackhawks went […]The post After The George Parros Incident, We Need...
