Lundqvist
DET (44-25-4) are at the Big Apple tonight to play the Eastern Conference leading NYR (45-20-7).  NYR goalie Henrik Lundqvist is posting Vezina numbers this season, 33-15-5,  1.89 GAA (3),  0.934 Save% (2), #2 inWins, and #1 in Shutouts with 8.  No worries though, the Wings will counter with goalie Ty Conklin or Jordan Pearce (in what would be his NHL debut). In their past seven games, the Red Wings have trailed 3-0 to Washington, 2-0 to San Jose, 4-0 to Anaheim, 2-0 to Los Angeles, 3-1 to Nashville, 2-1 to Los Angeles and 3-1 to Philadelphia - - the Wings went 1-5-1 in that stretch. Into this world we’re thrown, like a dog without a bone. I got nothing else.  LGRW. Continue reading "GDT - Game #74:  Red Wings at Rangers (7:30)"

Conklin clears waivers, will start vs. Rangers

Ty Conklin will be in net for the Red Wings on Wednesday in New York. According a tweet from FSD's John Keating, Conklin cleared waivers and will get the start against the Rangers. Rookie Jordan Pearce will be Conklin's backup. Jimmy Howard, who is nursing a sore groin, says he might be ready to play Saturday at home against the Carolina Hurricanes. Howard's usual...

Lundqvist's Positioning Helps Mentally & Physically

Elliotte Friedman at CBC Sports has this quote from former Rangers back-up goaltender Alex Auld on what makes Henrik Lundqvist so good..."Henrik is so efficient. Because he plays so deep, he doesn't need to move much. He's able to take in more [mentally] and there's less confusion going in his head. He's focused. Able to read the play. It's very hard to teach...

The Rangers report that Artem Anisimov (shoulder) participated in the morning skate, but will not be in the line-up against the Devils tonight....great to see AA practicing again. Assuming he should be back at some point this week. Will be interesting to see who gets scratched when he's ready. The Rangers also report that Henrik Lundqvist will get the start tonight....he better...

MVP So Far This Season

In January I picked Evgeni Malkin as the MVP so far this season.  In February, Henrik Lundqvist took the MVP lead.  I am back to picking Malkin as MVP.  When I picked Lundqvist he was posting a .940 saves percentage and a 1.78 GAA.  Those numbers have fallen to a .934 saves percentage and 1.89 GAA.  While those are still Vezina Trophy numbers they are not good enough to be...

Rangers Hold Off Devils; Recap

Two smart periods and one sloppy period equals Rangers win. It wasn’t perfect but the Rangers got what they deserved out of the game as they beat the Devils 4-2. They were the better team throughout and ten minutes aside in the second controlled play, were defensively solid and could have scored more if not for some sharp goaltending by Brodeur. On to the notes from the game...

Ty Conklin Clears Waivers

Conklin cleared waivers today and is scheduled to start against the Rangers at MSG. Jordan Pearce will be the backup even though Jimmy Howard felt he could fill that position tonight.  Howard also mentioned he’d like to start on Saturday. No change in Johan Franzen, did not skate but received off-ice treatment. Lidstrom did more skating at the optional practice today, so far...

Red Wings Recap 3.21.2012

Way better effort tonight by the Wings. Not the result we wanted, but we're getting there. If the Wings keep playing like that, they'll be fine.Jump for the recap:  Conklin was very good out there. I'm not surprised. He's played very well in Grand Rapids and I knew he'd be ready if the call came. The PP was better tonight. Good movement and some decent shots...

Postgame: Rangers Fulfill Needs, Including Clinching Playoff Spot, in Win Over Devils

The New York Rangers needed a response tonight and they got it. The Rangers needed two points to spread their lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins for first place in the East, and they got them. The Rangers needed to clinch a playoff spot with a win against their rivals and they got it. Tonight’s 4-2 win over the New Jersey Devils at Madison Square Garden was all you could’ve asked...

It Stopped Being Funny A While Ago, Howard Hurt

Whoever mocked the injury gods, please start apologizing immediately.  This is getting ridiculous.  Goaltender Jimmy Howard, who missed three games this month with a strained groin, has suffered a relapse. Not only that, but there's a chance that Conklin will be picked up through waivers too if some team wants to screw us.  What does that leave?  Here's Khan to explain...

Red Wings lose Howard to groin injury…again

Unbelievable: Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard is out again according to MLive’s Ansar Khan: Wings’ Jimmy Howard has groin injury again. Team is recalling Ty Conklin from Grand Rapids on emergency basis. The CBC’s Tim Wharnsby says that Conklin has been placed on re-entry waiers.
