Don’t let his mustache or proclivity for fighting fool you — George Parros is a bit of an intellectual. That’s what his college years would suggest, at least. Parros attended Princeton University for four years from 1999 to 2003. There, he totaled 129 penalty minutes during his four seasons with the Tigers. That number pales in comparison to the 979 PIMs he’s racked up during an NHL career that has spanned nine years and four teams, however. The 6-foot-5 winger has 1-1-2 totals with the Florida Panthers entering Thursday night, but if this whole “hockey” thing takes a turn south for him any time soon, he will certainly have a nice Ivy League education to fall back on.

At Which ECAC School Did Panthers Enforcer George Parros Play Hockey?

Hockey fans have no problem spotting George Parros. He’s the 6-foot-5 guy rocking the game’s sweetest mustache either pummeling an opponent’s face in or sitting in the penalty box after pummeling an opponent’s face in. But the longtime enforcer wasn’t always just hitting people in the face, as he was hitting the books for four years at an ECAC hockey school from 1999-2003...

AHL player accused of trespassing at Texas home

San Antonio Rampage center Scott Timmins has been charged with trespassing after allegedly getting drunk and breaking into a house several blocks from his home. Officials with the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers didn't immediately comment Wednesday on the 23-year-old player's status. A woman called police early Monday to report a stranger on her couch. She and her...

Dan Spiegel: Versteeg, Panthers Are Snakebit

If Kris Versteeg's right knee could talk, it would say what Panther fans already know. This team and shortened season are snakebit in ways that are unprecedented, even for this usually-futile franchise. Versteeg was just getting his legs back under him after missing almost a month with a chest injury suffered from a cheap hit by Alex Ovechkin. This time, Versteeg was caught...

Shawn Matthias scores sick shorthanded goal

Those who work hard often get rewarded, and that is exactly what happened during the Boston Bruins-Florida Panthers game on Thursday night.  Early in the second period the Panthers were killing off a penalty and Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton missed a bad pass and the puck squirted out to center ice.  Panthers forward Shawn Matthias out-hustled Hamilton and dove for the loose...

Sabres deal D Brennan to Panthers

The Buffalo Sabres have traded defenseman T.J. Brennan to the Florida Panthers in exchange for a fifth-round pick in this year's draft. The move came after Buffalo already began shuffling its roster by returning rookie center Mikhail Grigorenko to his team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Brennan had one goal in 10 games this season. He also had a goal in 11 games...

Rangers had interest in Stephen Weiss; In on Ribiero?

Mike Ribiero? Interesting to say the least. It’s long been rumored that the Rangers were talking to the Florida Panthers regarding Stephen Weiss, and Katie Strang confirmed that yesterday. Weiss is now out for the season, having undergone wrist surgery. While that path has closed, it appears that E.J. Hradek has mentioned that the Rangers are in on the Caps’ Mike Ribiero. There...

BREAKING: Sabres Trade T.J. Brennan To Florida

The overload of defensemen on the Buffalo Sabres roster has been given a little bit of relief. The team has traded T.J. Brennan to the Florida Panthers for a 5th round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft. The draft pick received originally belonged to New Jersey, but the Panthers acquired it in a trade with Los Angeles. The move comes on the same day the team decided to send rookie Mikhail...

Islanders-Panthers Preview

While nothing seems to be going right for the NHL-worst Florida Panthers, the New York Islanders are starting to turn things around. The Panthers try to avoid losing six straight for the first time in two seasons Saturday night when they host the Islanders, who have had a rough time in this series. Giving up a league-high 3.7 goals per game, Florida (7-15-6) has been outscored...

Panthers at Bruins game preview

Game time: 7 p.m. ETTV: FOX Sports Florida The Boston Bruins have clearly played like one of the Eastern Conference's top teams, which is perhaps why their last result was so disappointing. A matchup at home Thursday night against the struggling Florida Panthers should provide Boston with a good opportunity to bounce back. The Bruins (17-4-3) won three in a row and nine of 11...

Bruins-Panthers Live: B’s Return Home Hoping to Get Back on Winning Track Against Florida

8 a.m. ET: The Bruins were just a few minutes from finishing off what would have been a very impressive two-game road trip to start their busiest week of the season. That apparently wasn’t in the cards, however, as Boston coughed up a two-goal lead late Monday in Pittsburgh as the Penguins stormed back to win 3-2. The B’s return home Thursday night to continue their stretch of...
