In an interview with Jim Cerny at Blueshirts United, CT Whale head coach Ken Gernander discusses the synergy between him and John Tortorella...

"You have an overall idea of how the New York Rangers want to play and we try to mirror that as best we can...Everyone knows how John Tortorella wants his players to play and what kind of team he's looking for. And we try to mirror that. We try to instill that in the players in Hartford. We've had great players come through there that have been called up and had an impact. They're quality players, they're the ones putting in the work. They're the ones doing it on the ice. It's great to see them get opportunities. When they get called up, they get thrown right into the line-up and they get important ice time. And a chance to show themselves. So it's been a great working relationship."

...Gernander has done an amazing job having these guys ready for the pro game when they're called up. Just look at the youngsters who've gone thru the Whale and impacted the Rangers the last few years: McDonagh, Hagelin, Bickel, Del Zotto, Mitchell, Kolarik and Sauer.

While he won't makes the Rangers out of camp, one guy I'm expecting to get a chance at some point if/when there is a season is Ryan Bourque, who discusses what he learned from his uneven first pro season last year with the Whale (via Blueshirts United)...

"Once you get here the pro game is so much different, and you have to pay attention to detail just a whole lot more. Taking advantage of the opportunities that do come...you have to capitalize when they are there because you are only going to get a small amount of chances each game. Coming into this year having experienced the ups and downs last season is just huge for me. I'm really excited to improve in all areas."

...if there are any injuries to guys like Pyatt or Halpern expect Bourque to be one of the first guys called up.
