After dropping the first two games of this series on home ice, the Ducks came back and won both games in Los Angeles. After game three the Ducks had multiple injuries, but rode a goalie change and the play of their captain to the win. The Ducks were far from perfect tonight and were flat out bad in the second period, but they managed to hang on for the win. The Ducks were great on special teams tonight too. It's now a best of three in the battle between the Ducks and the Kings. This game tonight was all about Ducks rookie goalie John Gibson. With Frederik Andersen injured in game three and Jonas Hiller playing well in relief, it appeared as though Hiller would be the starter and Gibson would be the backup. But Bruce Boudreau is known for making risky decisions with his goalies, and tonight it paid off in spades. Gibson has played in three games in the NHL. He shutout the Vancouver Canucks in his NHL debut, defeated the San Jose Sharks when the Ducks won the Pacific Division, a...

Rookie John Gibson dazzles in playoff debut as Ducks even series

LOS ANGELES -- If you thought two teams playing hockey in an area where frozen ponds don't even exist was strange, Saturday night's Freeway Faceoff game really turned the hockey world upside down. A 20-year-old rookie goaltender started his fourth NHL game and won - a crucial postseason game, at that. The goalie that gave up the least amount of goals in the regular season...

John Gibson makes history with shutout in playoff debut

John Gibson is in the NHL history books after recording a shutout again the LA Kings in his playoff debut. Called on after Frederik Anderson went down with an injury, the 20-year-old Gibson had just three NHL games to his name heading into Game 4 against the Kings. It was a bold decision by coach Bruce Boudreau, but it’s one which paid off as Gibson stopped 28 shots in an impressive...

Ducks to start John Gibson in net for Game 5

The Anaheim Ducks will start goalie John Gibson in Game 5 of their Western Conference Second Round series Monday against the Los Angeles Kings at Honda Center, coach Bruce Boudreau announced Sunday. “Well, I kind of believe that it’s not a difficult decision tomorrow,” Boudreau said. “I’m not going to try to play that game. He came in. He played great. He’s going...

Ducks' 20-year-old goalie shuts out Kings in debut to tie series

John Gibson made 28 saves in his dynamic NHL playoff debut, captain Ryan Getzlaf had a goal and an assist, and the Anaheim Ducks evened their second-round playoff series with a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in Game 4 on Saturday night. The Anaheim Ducks Even Their Series At Two, John Gibson Is The Star Of The Game

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,  Andrew Cogliano glanced over during pregame at the 20-year-old goalie about to start in their biggest game yet of the season, and the Anaheim Ducks forward was amazed. John Gibson had the look of a kid who could have just as well been anywhere else in the world but at Staples Center before his first-ever NHL playoff game. "I've...

Ducks' Mathieu Perreault misses Game 4

The Anaheim Ducks seem to have caught the injury plague. On top of injuries to starting goaltender Frederik Andersen and left winger Matt Beleskey (lower-body), 26 year-old forward Mathieu Perreault is out of the lineup for Game 4 on Saturday night.  Pulling Perreault was a game-time decision.Photo: Michael Miller via wikimedia commonsEric Stephens of Orange County Register reports...

Ducks’ Corey Perry Breaks Stick In Middle Of Shot Attempt On Empty Net (GIF)

Anaheim Ducks winger Corey Perry has been quite unlucky in the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs, and that misfortune continued Thursday night in Game 2 of his team’s second-round series against the Los Angeles Kings. In the final minute of the game, Perry was in the act of shooting on an empty Kings net after goaltender Jonathan Quick had gone to the bench for the extra attacker. As Perry...

Ducks claim chess match in goal vs Kings

Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau made his most crucial decision before Saturday’s Game 4 of the NHL’s Western Conference second-round series. Boudreau put himself in the hot seat by starting 20-year-old rookie goaltender John Gibson. It was a bold move to make mid-playoffs, but Boudreau had already started two other goaltenders in the series. He had one goalie who hasn’t won at...

Who Starts In Goal For The Anaheim Ducks?

from Cam Cole of the Vancouver Sun, The Anaheim Ducks took the day off Friday to rest up and wait for the goalie to arrive who wasn’t officially coming, but actually was. In fact, as we write this, John Gibson is probably finding out from Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau whether or not, after getting off the flight from Norfolk, Va., where he’s been lighting it up in the nets...

Teemu Selanne reflects on last postseason hurrah

LOS ANGELES -- He remembers his first career postseason goal like yesterday. He remembers his first goal well.  However, that first goal was soon topped not once but twice. The first time he scored in a postseason game, Teemu Selanne scored a hat trick for the Winnipeg Jets. "White noise in Winnipeg," he said, laughing. One of the most prolific scorers in NHL history and...

Ducks' Allen enjoying taste of playoffs

The games are too important for Ducks defenseman Bryan Allen to sit back and savor but this time is exactly what he wanted when he signed on as a free agent. It was two years ago when Allen jumped on a three-year deal the Ducks offered as they looked to upgrade their defense. And the 33-year-old veteran of 710 NHL games saw a chance to enjoy the taste of playoff hockey that had...

Corey Perry’s Makeup

from Mark Masters of TSN, Ryan Getzlaf breaks into a big grin when asked about the agitating antics of his longtime linemate Corey Perry. "What?
