Jean-Sebastien Giguere wasn't perfect, but he was good enough to keep the Colorado Avalanche rolling.
Giguere stopped 30 shots, Ryan O'Reilly had a goal and an assist and Colorado beat the Calgary Flames 4-2 on Friday night.
Paul Stastny, John Mitchell and Matt Duchene also scored for the Avalanche, who joined the 1995 Quebec Nordiques for the best 15-game start in franchise history. Colorado (13-2) needed 29 games to earn 26 points in last year's lockout shortened season.
Giguere has been a big reason for Colorado's turnaround. The 36-year-old goalie's 5-0 record ties the franchise record for best start to a season.
He came into Friday having allowed three goals in four games and posted two shutouts, so allowing two goals in a 3 mnute, 39 second span seemed out of character.
''You are not going to be perfect every time,'' Giguere said.
Mike Cammalleri had two goals and Mikael Backlund had two assists for Calgary, which has dropped seven of ...

The news out of Avalanche practice Thursday: Ryan Wilson has a back injury and highly doubtful for Friday’s game with the Flames. He’ll be seen by Dr. Parker this afternoon and we might know more then. It’s just the latest in a string of injuries that have felled Wilson the last couple years.
Matt Duchene didn’t practice today because of a bruised foot, the result of blocking...
Ryan Wilson's injury-plagued NHL career has taken another unfortunate turn.
The Avalanche defenseman, who missed much of last season because of ankle injuries and most of training camp and the early part of this season because of a knee injury, will now be lost to a back injury.
Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said Wilson will be out a minimum of two weeks with the latest injury...
Nashville defenseman Seth Jones fired the puck, and it ended up on the Avalanche bench, barely missing Nathan MacKinnon's head. Because the teenagers are friends — truly — MacKinnon could joke about it, even during the high-level emotionalism of Wednesday night's game at the Pepsi Center ... and a couple of days later too.
"I asked him if he was trying to take me...

Goalkeeper Calvin Pickard stopped 21 shots and four different goal scorers chipped in, as the Lake Erie Monsters (5-5-0-0) topped the Utica Comets (0-8-1-1) by a 4-0 score Thursday night within Quicken Loans Arena. Colin Smith and Trevor Cheek scored their first professional goals in the Monsters’ win, while David van der Gulik and Andrew Agozzino...
Evgeniya Vavrinyuk, the alleged victim of domestic violence that led to the arrest of Colorado Avalanche’s starting goaltender, Semyon Varlamov, was interviewed for the first time following his arrest yesterday and she did not paint a pretty picture.
Here is part of the Vavrinyuk interview:
Why did this happen?
“He has a problem with alcohol. I’m not saying he drinks often...
The Colorado Avalanche battled back last night against the Nashville Predators after falling behind by two goals, but ultimately lost the game and in the process had their six game winning streak snapped. It also appears they may have lost their defenseman Ryan Wilson to an injury.
Colorado’s head coach Patrick Roy told reporters afterward that it looked as though Wilson may have...
One of the top slogans for the Avalanche this season is: We don't lose two in a row.
After 15 games of their NHL season, the Avs still haven't. On Friday night before a near-sellout crowd at the Pepsi Center, the Avs won a thrilling 4-2 decision over the Calgary Flames to improve to 13-2.
"That's what we've been telling ourselves. We're doing our best to...
The Colorado Avalanche and Washington Capitals have thrived in different situations this season.
The Capitals have excelled on special teams with the NHL's best power play and an excellent penalty kill. The Avalanche have enjoyed most of their success in even-strength play with the league's third-best 5-on-5 goals for/against ratio of 1.70.
A home win Sunday night for the...

The second meeting of the season against the Washington Capitals and Colorado Avalanche is set to kick off at 8:00 PM EST on Sunday night.
Earlier this season the Avalanche marched over the Capitals by defeating them 5-1 at Verizon Center. The Capitals have won seven of their last ten games while the Avalanche has won eight of their last ten games.
The Colorado Avalanche have become accustomed to winning, so they're eager to bounce back after their worst defensive performance of the season.
Considering how Calgary has played on the road, the Flames might be rather accommodating.
Matt Duchene and the Avalanche look to recover from a rare loss by sending the Flames to a third straight defeat to cap their road trip Friday...
A few weeks ago I picked Semyon Varlamov of the Colorado Avalanche as the top goalie so far in the season. Varlamov was off to a great start but he has had some off-ice problems. He was arrested for domestic violence. Perhaps this is straining his play. His numbers have fallen in his limited play since the arrest. Thus it is time to pick a new top goalie. My pick is...
