Gilroy on Board + Moving Up On Monday, February 27, the Senators acquired defenseman Matt Gilroy from the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team’s only move at the NHL’s trade deadline. In exchange, Tampa received Brian Lee, a player who never fully met the expectations of the Senators organization. Throughout his time in Ottawa, Lee struggled, finding his way in and out of the lineup on a regular basis. Gilroy was the top-ranked college player before signing with the New York Rangers a few seasons back. (Interesting to note that Bryan Murray made a run at signing Gilroy before he was nabbed by the Ranges.) Needless to say, Murray is rather high on Gilroy, a puck-moving defenseman who plays well in his own end. Gilroy currently sits with 17 points on the season.
