Flyers center Claude Giroux and defenseman Kimmo Timonen have been selected to represent the Flyers at the NHL’s All Star Game this year.
Like last year, the captains of each All Star Team were voted in by the fans. Two days before the game, the rest of the players, selected by the NHL will drafted, fantasy style, by those captains, without regards to Conference affiliation. Last year, Claude Giroux and Danny Briere, both Flyers, we’re drafted to opposite teams and played against each other.
Giroux and Timonen are both having stellar seasons, so it comes as no shock that they were selected to the team.
Despite an impassioned plea from coach Peter Laviolette, winger Scott Hartnell was not selected. Hartnell is having a career year for the Flyers, but his reputation for being everyone’s least favorite opponent may have hindered his selection.
The NHL All Star Game will be played in Ottawa on Sunday, January 29th an will be televised on the NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus) at 4PM. The fantasy draft will take place on Thursday, January 26th at 8PM, also on NBC Sports Network.
