I stated before the season that if the Bruins win a cup this year, it will be because Tuukka Rask stepped up and played like one of the best goalies in the NHL. Thus far, he is proving to be up to the task. In 3 games, Tuukka has stopped 75 of 81 shots, a .926 save percentage and 1.95 GAA. That is the type of goaltending that will keep the Bruins in contention until season's end. But Claude Julien needs to keep in mind the Tuukka has not been the most durable player throughout his career, and is injury prone. Despite the fact that it is a short season, Tuukka is going to need nights off and significant rest during the year to make sure he is healthy in the long run. It's also important to get Anton Khudobin some solid time in net in case Rask does go down with an injury as he did last year. Anton Khudobin with the Providence Bruins After three tough games, including two where he was forced to work overtime, Tuukka is due for a night off. It will be interesting to see w...

Milan Lucic whoops Matt Carkner in fight

Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic is an absolute force; he’s the ultimate power forward.  He will take on anyone in a fight, and can still be productive on offense.  He scored 26 goals last year, and 30 goals the year before.  Lucic just utterly destroyed Carkner in this fight, despite both of them being about 6’4″ 230.  Carkner went down in the TKO, and I’m sure he...

Dougie Hamilton Earning Praise From Teammates After Impressive First Week in NHL (Video)

It may be Dougie Hamilton‘s first week in the NHL, but the 19-year-old sure isn’t playing like it and his teammates are noticing. Named the No. 1 star in Friday’s win over the Islanders, Hamilton earned praise not only from the fans at the TD Garden, but also from his teammates and head coach. Noting his ability to get good looks at the net, his adjustment to the NHL and the...

Dougie Hamilton Leading ‘Youth Movement’ for Bruins With Two Assists in Latest, Greatest Performance (Video)

It’s easy to forget Dougie Hamilton is new on the scene, because he’s looked right at home for the Bruins. The 19-year-old defenseman added two assists to his stat totals and plenty more to his growing legend on Friday night, as his latest and greatest performance wowed the TD Garden crowd and many more watching from home. Thanks to the energy provided by Hamilton and the Bruins’...

It's Dougie's World, We're Just Living In It

Dougie Hamilton isn't afraid to use the body I said it yesterday and I'll say it again Dougie Hamilton is the real deal. Two days after posting his first career point against the Rangers, Hamilton was back at it registering two huge assists on Friday night against the other New York team (Islanders) and was named the 1st star. The first assits was similar to Wednesday...

Energy Proving Crucial for Bruins With Shortened Season Displaying Strange Side Effects (Video)

The Bruins and Islanders have been locked up in a tight one on Friday night, and it’s hard to tell which team is supposed to be rested and which is playing a back-to-back. NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette has noticed a lot of energy in the TD Garden, but not just in this game. In fact, it appears that there’s been a lot more energy and end-to-end action in these games than in years...

Bruins Fan’s Beer Gets All PUCKED UP (VIDEO)

If you live in Boston and love hockey, nothing gets better than taking in a Bruins game with a cold brew. However, this fan got even more than even he bargained for. This past Monday in a game versus the Winnipeg Jets, Bruins forward Tyler Seguin shot the puck and it was deflected in the stands. It’s landing spot? In a $12 beer. Team and concessions owner Jeremy Jacobs was probably...

‘Tuukka Time’ Strikes Again for Bruins as Islanders Try Rusty Rick DiPietro in Potentially Lopsided Matchup (Video)

Tuukka Rask has been stellar between the pipes for the Bruins so far, so coach Claude Julien appears ready to ride his goalie’s hot streak. Rask will start his fourth straight game to start the season on Friday night, with Rick DiPietro getting the nod for the Islanders for his first start since 2011. It would appear to be a matchup slanted in the Bruins’ favor, but DiPietro...

Bruins 4, Islanders 2

Zdeno Chara scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period and Tuukka Rask made 24 saves, lifting the Boston Bruins to a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders on Friday night. Patrice Bergeron, Shawn Thornton and Gregory Campbell also scored for Boston, which improved to 3-0-1. New York's Keith Aucoin had his first career two-goal game, and has scored three times in two...

Game 4 Preview: Islanders -- Rask slated for fourth start

The Bruins return to the Garden after their brief visit to New York. Against the Rangers the defense, well, looked like this: We expect that to not happen again tonight against the NY Islanders. A Claude Julien team just doesn't have long stretches of awful defense like that. Expect tonight's defense to be a lot more like this: The Islanders are currently...

Bruins Top Islanders With 4-2 Win At Home

With their third win of the young season on Friday night, the Bruins have gained seven out of a possible eight points to begin the season. Anyone looking for a different way to spend a Friday night got their money’s worth during this one. The absence of Garden legend Rene Rancourt singing the national anthem was just about the only complaint any of the 17,565 screaming fans could...

Drink The Merlot In, It Always Goes Down Smooth. BRUINS WIN!

It wasn't pretty, but it's 2 points and in the end that's all that matters. The Bruins looked sloppy and sluggish throughout the game tonight and needed some luck (see: Campbell game tying goal) but eventually took control in the third period and beat the New York Islanders 4-2. The Bruins fourth line really clicked tonight and played like the first...

Islanders-Bruins Preview

The Boston Bruins are off to a strong start even with their offense not fully in gear yet. Matchups with the New York Islanders usually provide a big boost to their production. Boston looks to rebound from its first loss and continue its success against the Islanders when the teams meet Friday night at TD Garden. Expected to be among the best teams in the Eastern Conference, the...

Puck Lands In Bruins Fan’s Beer During Game

The Bruins hosted the Winnipeg Jets this week. During the game an errant puck landed in a fan’s beer. A rare occurrence that we can celebrate thanks to YouTube. On another note, the Bruins coming out of the gate strong this year… Stanley Cup?

Boston Bruins steal a point in New York

Tuukka Rask’s play was not enough for the Bruins to win two points in New York The other day I wrote about how in the past the Boston Bruins came out slow and tired during matinee games, likely due to a night previous of crazy partying or whatever the kids do these days. That didn’t happen on Monday afternoon even though it was an early-season matinee and the opponent wasn...

Rangers Finally Playing Like Stanley Cup Favorites They Are as Bruins Withstand Furious Assault (Video)

The Rangers are expected to contend for a Stanley Cup this season. Problem is, their first two games of the year didn’t do a whole lot to make that expectation a reality. On Wednesday, though, the Blueshirts came out firing against the Bruins and Tuukka Rask, and Boston was probably lucky to be trailing by only two goals after one period. NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette is impressed...
