Is David Booth Vancouver’s unexpected, expected savior?
Starting during the 2008-09 season, the Vancouver Canucks dropped the “We Are All Canucks” campaign on their fans.
Over time, the marketing department may have gone in different directions, but at the end of the day, the team still wants us to feel that we are the seventh man on the ice.
After a short hiatus, we return to our indepth what have they done for us lately look at the Canucks roster and with his current production being a huge reason why the Canucks have suffered only one loss since his mid January return, David Booth has provided the team with exactly what they were hoping for when they acquired him at the beginning of the season.
Contributing points in six of their last nine games, Booth is far from one of the point leaders on the team, charting only 20 points on the season.
However, the recent point production has not come in the form that most expected when they traded for the left wing sniper. Booth has been acting as a giver as well as a receiver on the second line with Ryan Kesler and either Alex Burrows or Chris Higgins.
With three goals and four assists since the start of 2012, Booth has started to prove his worth to skeptical Canucks fans.
In hindsight, maybe the month off served Booth and the Canucks well.
Tagged as part of the “AmEx” line while the contract ink was still wet, questions started to flow as to what the big deal was surrounding a player who was riddled with injuries during his five plus years in Florida.
Already having two concussions in his back pocket from his tenure as a Panther, a MCL injury in December did not kick his Canucks career off on the right foot.
Tough start, considering it took the first two months of the year for Booth to finally become comfortable with the Lower Mainland hockey club, when you take into consideration both the off ice adjustment and the juggling between the second and third line teammates.
In hindsight, maybe the month off served Booth and the Canucks well.
Initially surprised and saddened by the relocation, the extra time to mesh with teammates and get used to the hockey crazed city (a big change from Florida!), appears to have settled Booth. Call it coincidence, but a healthy David Booth, a revitalized Ryan Kesler and a lengthy Canucks winning streak may go hand in hand.
Teaming up for goals in five of the last nine games, it looks like Booth and the AmEx line has finally started to pay dividends for the Canucks.
(Though as of this writing, Chris Higgins, due to injury has been replaced by Alex Burrows…….Can-Am Connection anyone?).
