PLAYERS: Tim ThomasTuukka Rask
TEAMS: Boston Bruins
The Bruins took the power back. The hostage situation is over. Finally, the Tim Thomas Era has ended in Boston The Black & Gold have freed themselves of the ghosts of the past (Thomas), so they can focus on now (Rask).  The page has turned and Tuukka is now the central character in the story of the 2013 Boston Bruins. Being a FORMER Thomas fan, all I can say is GOOD RIDDANCE! No more bad memories of Tim Thomas turning HIS back on the team . No more Facebook posts preaching HIS agenda.  No longer does this drama, this distraction loom over OUR team. The fans of the Islanders can enjoy that now (if Thomas even comes back). Tim Thomas has set the Guinness world record for going from a HERO to a ZERO. He has perfected the art of career suicide. Now, let me set the record straight before the legions of Tim Thomas (The SACRED COW) supporters say, “You  ungrateful bastard, Thomas is the only reason the Bruins won the Cup!”. Correction: Thomas was a BIG reason why the Bruins won their first championship in 39 years, he was not the ONLY reason. Last time I checked, hockey was a TEAM sport. A concept Thomas so quickly forgot after his new found fame. I WAS a huge fan of Tim Thomas. I loved his blue collar worth ethic and his Cinderella story to the NHL. I had his back in 2010 when everyone wanted the young phenom Tuukka Rask to take over for the old vet. And if you don’t believe me, here is my blog post from January 15, 2010: Give Tuukka Time a rest (especially you Michael Felger)! Tim Thomas is still an ELITE goaltender folks. The game last night versus San Jose illustrates just that. He single handedly won that game for the Bruins last night. They had no right winning that game with their depleted roster. The Old Happy Tim Thomas I LOVED Now, remember the Bruins were shopping Thomas hard to pave the way for Rask. And this is when Thomas took things personally: But Thomas made a pretty symbolic change at the beginning of last season when he drained the Black and Gold colors from his goaltending pads and goalie mask after a summer of trade rumors. Thomas removed the Bruins logo from his mask and instead replaced it with an image of the lucky coin he wears around his neck. Can I blame him for being pissed?  N0. But at the end of the day, sports is a BUSINESS. So he played like a man possessed and turned in a playoff goaltending performance for the ages. He was INSTRUMENTAL in bringing back Lord Stanley to the Hub Of Hockey. He was a MAJOR player in the happiest sports moment of my life. And I will never forget that. However…. Because of his fame, he now had the celebrity and stage to promote his own agenda. Thomas was not about the Spoked B on his chest but more for the name on the back. He let his hatred for the Bruins front office overcome his being. And that’s when I lost RESPECT for #30. The player who scratched and clawed for everything was throwing it all away in favor of a personal vendetta. He wanted to exact revenge on the Bruins organization in the forms of boycotts, political rants and holding his now former club hostage. Why else would he not just retire? Because he wanted the franchise that I LOVE to suffer, I no longer had the stomach for it. My loyalty to Tim Thomas was gone. So in closing and as I have said numerous times, I LOVED who Tim Thomas WAS not who he IS NOW. I am a die hard fan of the logo on the front of the jersey not the SELFISH name on the back. Enjoy your bunker……you had it ALL you FOOL.

Bruins say goodbye to Thomas after heroic career

Bruins fans were shocked in June when star goaltender Tim Thomas announced he would be taking the year off from hockey in order to spend more time with his family. Some people became angered by this, which is a bit shallow. You need to respect Thomas for his decision. He's 38 years old, and he's not getting any younger. Timmy Traded To Islanders

Imagine if you will President Obama resigning from the Oval Office to the mountains of Colorado. Staying hunkered down in a bunker waiting for the "end of times". Tim Thomas just about gave up the same amount of respect and adoration when he announced he was not going to play at all in the 2012-2013 season. And yes I used a President Obama example to explain the Timmy Thomas...

It's usually a big deal when a future Hall of Famer gets traded.  If Tim Thomas returns to the NHL and he is motivated to play at a high level today's trade could be a big deal someday.  Right now it is a trade that has been made for bookkeeping reasons and to allow teams to try to circumvent their CBA responsibilities.
