Griffin Reinhart (Edmonton Oil Kings) They broke out the brooms on Wednesday night for 2 New York Ranger and 2 New York Islander prospects as 3 of them got to advance while one saw his junior career come to an end. One prospect missed out on his team's game due to a mandatory suspension for match penalty he received in his last game. Griffin Reinhart (NYI 2012 1st) was 1 of 3 Edmonton Oil Kings not to score in his team's 9-2 rout of the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday night. Wednesday night was a different story as the captain of the Oil Kings scored what turned out to be the series winning goal as the Oil Kings defeated the Tigers 4-2 to win their series 4-0. Reinhart's goal at 13:19 of the 3rd period broke a 2-2 tie as the Oil Kings rallied behind 3 third period goals to finish off the Tigers and advance to the WHL's Eastern Conference Finals for the 2nd straight year. The goal was Reinhart's 3rd of the playoffs as the 6'4 205 defenseman also helped keep the Tigers at bay on defense with the penalty kill killing off 5 out 6 Tiger attempts. Yesterday's hero Michael St. Croix (NYR 2011 4th) was held scoreless on Wednesday night. The Oil Kings will be off until Thursday April 18th when they will host game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against either the Calgary Hitmen or Red Deer Rebels. Brenden Kichton (NYI 2011 5th) saw his junior career come to an unhappy ending as his Spokane Chiefs lost to the Portland Winterhawks 5-0 and were swept out of their WHL Western Conference semifinal series. Kichton had another rough outing as he was a -3 as the Chiefs were shut out for the 2nd time in the series and held to just 3 goals in the entire series. Kichton leaves the Chiefs as the franchise leader in goals, assists and point by a defenseman with a 66-201-267. Kichton and the Islanders have not been able to work out a contract agreement which quite honestly is dumb on the part of the Islanders who don't have a ton of scoring potential among their defensive prospects. Samuel Noreau (NYR 2011 5th) and his Baie-Comeau Drakkar advanced to the QMJHL semifinals after a 2-1 win over the Victoriaville Tigre swept out the Tigre. Noreau was scoreless on 3 shots as his Drakkar advanced to the league semifinals for the first time since the 2003 playoffs. The Drakkar know that they will be facing the Blainville-Boisbrand Armanda but they don't know when their series will begin. The 2nd seeded Drakkar have never played in the QMJHL finals before and this is the team that has the best chance to end that streak. Tommy Hughes (NYR 2013 UFA) sat out his London Knights game with the Kitchener Rangers on Wednesday evening serving out a mandatory 1 game suspension as the result of a match penalty Hughes received on Monday night. Hughes got to watch his teammates rally from being down 3-1 after the 1st period to earn a 4-3 win in overtime in game 4. The Knights are up 3-1 in this series against the Rangers and will look to finish off the Rangers at home on Friday evening. Hughes will be eligible to return to the lineup for that game.

The New, New York Islanders

from Arthur Staple of Newsday, It's hard to identify the point this season when the Islanders shed their fragile reputation. There were fits and starts throughout the season, but a three-game losing streak at home last month, all games in which the Islanders led in the second or third periods, seemed to reinforce the feeling that this team was not quite ready to make the...

Who Is the Last Islander to Lead the NHL in Goals Scored?

John Tavares has been keeping the Islanders afloat this season thanks in part to his 24 tallies, which, as of Wednesday, puts him third in the NHL, just two behind co-league leaders Steven Stamkos and Alex Ovechkin. Who was the last Islanders player to lead the league in goals scored? Answer The Four’s Trivia Question of the Day and enter to win a $50 gift card to one of The Four’s...

Josh Bailey Helps Islanders Make Statement Playing With ‘Playoff Purpose’ Against Bruins (Video)

The Bruins could have clinched a playoff spot against the Islanders with a win or overtime loss Thursday night. Josh Bailey had other ideas. The New York center scored two goals to lead the Isles to a 2-1 victory over the punchless Bruins, who looked gassed on the tail end of their final back-to-back of the year. Still, it was an important win for New York not only because they are...

Islanders keep pace in playoff run

Josh Bailey scored twice and the New York Islanders added another big win in their surge toward the playoffs by beating the Boston Bruins 2-1 on Thursday night. The Islanders, seeking their first trip to the postseason in seven years, improved to 5-0-1 in their last six games. New York, the seventh-place team in the Eastern Conference, kept pace with sixth-place Ottawa, which won...

Tough Islanders finish Flyers

The third period was often a dreaded 20 minutes for the New York Islanders this season. Not anymore. With a near capacity crowd at Nassau Coliseum chanting, ''We want playoffs,'' the Islanders maintained their poise after Michael Grabner scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period and went on beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 on Tuesday night. The surging...

Islanders 4, Flyers 1

Michael Grabner scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period and Evgeni Nabokov made 26 saves as the New York Islanders took another step toward the playoffs with a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night. The Islanders won for the seventh time in nine games and moved two points ahead of the idle Rangers into seventh place in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia...

Islanders Pass The Test by   Jesse Dakss

Are these New York Islanders for real? I believe so. It’d be tough to argue against it, that’s for sure. The Isles beat a Boston team that only had two regulation losses the entire season, prior to tonight. They continue their success and make it 8-1-1 in their last 10, a run that deserves a [...]

Eklund: Could Tavares Swipe Hart Trophy w/ Late Push?

Prior to suffering a broken jaw, it was almost a foregone conclusion that Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby was destined to skate off with the second Hart Trophy of his NHL career. Now there is at least a possibility that another candidate could make a last-moment push and grab the MVP trophy. My alternative choice: John Tavares. The New York Islanders' center has...

Taking care of the "unfinished business"

Michael St. Croix (Edmonton Oil Kings) It is the mantra of the Edmonton Oil Kings that they have "unfinished business" from last year's disappointing appearance in the 2012 Memorial Cup. As the only team that has both a New York Ranger and a New York Islander prospect on their roster; both players give their future teams plenty of reasons to get excited about their...

Isles Get Best Of Bruins In Potential Playoff Preview

Josh Bailey leads his teammates through the line after scoring his second goal of the night. In a potential playoff preview, the Islanders came into the Garden and proved they can play with the big boys. They took advantage of a couple Bruins‘ mistakes and continued their recent surge, improving to 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. Ultimately, it was a seeing-eye shot and a very late...

Islanders-Bruins Preview

While the New York Islanders don't need a statement victory to reach the playoffs for the first time in six years, it would add to their growing confidence. Becoming one of the few teams to win in Boston this season would surely serve that purpose. Enjoying one of their best runs in recent memory, the Islanders look to continue their postseason push Thursday night against the...

A Chance For A Statement Game by   Jesse Dakss

When frantically crunching numbers and figuring out a “path to the playoffs” for the New York Islanders, I chose 52 points as the number that it would take to make the post-season for the first time since 2007. Right now, the Isles are on pace for 52.8 points, so they’re exceeding expectations. Analyzing it game [...]

Bruins-Islanders Live: B’s Return Home to Host Surging Isles in Potential Playoff Preview

8 a.m.: If the playoffs started today, the Bruins would be hosting the New York Islanders in the first round. In that respect, Thursday night’s tilt between the two clubs might be a playoff preview. The Islanders are one of the hottest teams in the league right now, as they come into Boston having won two straight and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. The Isles currently control...

Old Time Hockey

Nassau County - The New York Rangers will face-off against the New York Islanders in the most meaningful game between the two squads in over a decade tomorrow night at the Coliseum.  The Islanders are sitting tied for the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference two points ahead, and with one more game played over the eighth place Rangers.  Winners of at least a point in 9 of their...
