David Desharnais and Erik Cole scored first-period goals and the Montreal Canadiens held on for a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday.
The win completed a sweep of weekend matinees at home for Montreal (6-2-0) after a 6-1 win Saturday over the Buffalo Sabres. The Canadiens have won five straight at home after dropping their home opener to Toronto on Jan. 19.
Jakob Silfverberg scored for Ottawa (5-3-1), which was coming off a 1-0 loss at Carolina on Friday night. Senators goalie Craig Anderson has not conceded a goal after the first period in eight games this season.
Max Pacioretty was back on the ice only eight days after having his appendix removed and got an assist on his first shift. His return gave Montreal an almost completely healthy lineup and dropped Lars Eller from the first to the fourth line a day after he had three points against the Sabres.
The game was only 36 seconds old when Tomas Plekanec was sent off for goalie interference and Ottawa used the man ad...
BEST OF MAXIM
MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens had scored at least four goals in each of their first five wins. Facing the hottest goalie in the NHL, they managed to claim their latest victory with only half as much offensive production. David Desharnais and Erik Cole scored first-period goals and Carey Price made 32 saves to lead Montreal to a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday...
This week, diving and embellishing has been the hot topic. So, who better than the Canadians defenseman P.K. Subban, who is a very talented and up and coming young defenseman. That being said, Subban's on ice behavior is disgusting, and his antics makes him look like a fraud.
I will call it like it is, Subban is a poor sport, no one wants to watch people flail around on...
A rough start to the season got a bit smoother for Lars Eller and David Desharnais on Saturday.
Eller had a goal and two assists and Desharnais scored a pair to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 6-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
''We've been struggling a bit the last couple of games so I think it was relief for Davey, too, to see the puck go in twice,'' said Eller...
Rene Bourque and David Desharnais each scored twice to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 6-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.
Carey Price made 30 saves for the Canadiens for his fifth win of the season. Lars Eller added a goal and two assists, while rookie Brendan Gallagher also scored.
Ryan Miller stopped 17 shots over two periods for Buffalo before being replaced in the...
When Montreal Canadiens' left wing Max Pacioretty had an emergency appendectomy, he was expected to miss 3-4 weeks. However, he was in the lineup on Sunday, just eight days after the operation. He did not score on Sunday, but has four assists for the season.
MONTREAL -- David Desharnais and Erik Cole scored first-period goals and Carey Price made 32 saves to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday. Desharnais scored his third goal in two games on Montreal's first shot on Craig Anderson 2:13. Cole put the Canadiens ahead to stay with his second goal at 11:29. Jakob Silfverberg gave Ottawa a...
Stephane Da Costa has been recalled by the Ottawa Senators.
For the second time in two seasons, it seems like Da Costa may be looked at as an internal candidate to fill that second line center role, after Regin failed to grasp it.
At practice today Zack Smith was elevated to the second line, with Regin demoted to the third. Da Costa was practicing between Condra and JOB...
Brandon Prust does not like Chris Neil.
So much so, that the former called out the latter in the wake of the Canadiens’ 5-1 loss to the Senators on Wednesday night.
Via the Ottawa Sun:
"I hope he gives me that fight in our building (Sunday)," said Prust.
Told of this Friday, Neil was quick with a comeback.
"What, fake dropping...
MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens were raring to go when they faced the Buffalo Sabres. Even so, it took them nearly one full period to break through against Ryan Miller, who couldn't hold them off on his own. Rene Bourque and David Desharnais scored twice and Lars Eller had a goal and two assists to lead the Canadiens to a 6-1 victory over the Sabres on Saturday. Rookie...

Ottawa Senators coach Paul MacLean doesn't seem to be overly concerned about his team's faltering offense.
Perhaps returning home has given him some extra confidence.
The Senators go for their first season-opening five-game home point streak since the 2000-01 season when they renew their Northeast Division rivalry with the struggling Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.
So Jason Spezza, Ottawa’s first line center and the league’s fourth leading league scorer last season, is out indefinitely with a herniated disc?
Ignoring the immediate kneejerk reaction, and ensuing panic that will flow, this news is a ‘we just traded Pavol Demitra for Christer Olsson’ kind of terrible that takes time to properly absorb.
The good news for Spezza...
