The Minnesota Wild was more than opportunistic Tuesday night in its 2-1 win against the San Jose Sharks.  Outshot 42-21 on the road against the lineup that San Jose boasts, one would’ve thought that the Wild’s winning streak was surely going to end.  However, Minnesota found two very different ways to score, and received an unbelievable outing by their goaltender.  And that wasn’t even the amazing part of it.        After giving up an early goal, starting goalie Josh Harding was accidentally run into by defenseman Nick Schultz, and suffered either a head or neck injury.  With usual starter Niklas Backstrom out with an injury as well, the Wild turned to recent call up Matt Hackett, who made his NHL debut.  Hackett came in and shut down the Sharks, stopping all 34 shots he saw in the game.        Hackett’s performance has to be reassuring for this team.  While head coach Mike Yeo said that Harding felt better today, and Backstrom has been skating, it’s nice to know that Minneso...

Wild expect to benefit from realignment

Forced into realignment following Atlanta's move to Winnipeg last summer, the NHL opted for a dramatic change rather than a simple one. League officials approved a radical realignment plan Monday that will give the league four conferences instead of six divisions and will guarantee home-and-home series among all teams. The NHL's Board of Governors authorized commissioner...

Wild RW Setoguchi iffy for Thursday's game

Minnesota Wild right wing Devin Setoguchi appears unlikely to play in Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Kings due to a lower-body injury. Setoguchi sat out practice Wednesday and was wearing a soft case on his right leg. He played less than three minutes in Tuesday's game against San Jose. One of the Wild's major offseason acquisitions, Setoguchi has eight goals...

Harding feeling better; Setoguchi not as much

SAN JOSE, Calif Josh Hardings injury 2 minutes into the Minnesota Wilds Tuesday night victory against the San Jose Sharks allowed emergency goalie Matt Hackett to enter the game and pick up a win, but it sounds like Harding could be back to work soon. Harding appeared to suffer a neck injury 11 seconds after allowing a goal in the first minute of play. He was hit in the face by...

A Wild Turnaround Arrives Early

Insider: There's a temptation to look for an easy answer to explain Minnesota's success. Especially since the Wild aren't loaded with talent. Not yet, anyway. "I don't know how we rate on the talent meter, other people can be the judge of that," GM Chuck Fletcher said. They're a franchise historically known for defense and the trap. So when you...

Coyotes host NHL-best Wild on Saturday

Matt Hackett's brilliant run in net for the Minnesota Wild could soon come to an end with starting goaltender Niklas Backstrom getting healthy. But with fellow back-up Josh Harding dealing with a neck injury, the 21-year-old rookie could be sticking around for a while. The NHL-leading Wild will try to extend their longest road win streak in franchise history to seven Saturday...

Is it time for the NHL to suspend for injury embellishment?

In the third period on Thursday night, Minnesota Wild forward (and Puck Daddy Q&A curse victim) Kyle Brodziak connected on a shoulder-to-shoulder hit that sent Los Angeles Kings star Anze Kopitar head-first into the boards. Brodziak was whistled for a 5-minute major and a game misconduct. Brodziak, after the game, was indignant; especially since Kopitar recovered quickly enough...

Cam Gore: Sharks pepper the Wild’s third string goalie but can’t solve Matt Hackett

The San Jose Sharks sent 42 pucks to the net and the majority of them were stopped by Minnesota’s third string goalie Matt Hackett who made his first NHL appearance in relief for the injured Josh Harding. Josh Harding got the start for the Wild tonight against Antti Niemi, but he didn’t last long. He took a stick to the head from his defenseman Nick Schultz and joined...
