Monday marked the beginning of the ever-popular World Junior Championships. Nashville Predators forward Matt Halischuk, the pride of Toronto, Ont., has great memories from his experience in 2008 in Czech Republic. Not only did Team Canada win gold, but Halischuk scored the overtime winner to beat Sweden in the gold medal game.“I just happened to get to the net there and my buddy (Shawn) Matthias was able to get the puck to the net, and I was able to whack it in,” Halischuk said. “It was exciting to be a part of that team. It was an honor to play for my country and was excited to win gold.”As they do every year, Team Canada boasted quite the squad that winter, as Claude Giroux, Steven Stamkos and John Tavares were all on the team.“There were some superstars on that team,” Halischuk said. “It was a great team that played well together.
