With Nashville trailing the Edmonton Oilers 3-0 in the second period, Predators forward Matt Halischuk tried to provide his team with some spark by getting into his first hockey fight.
Standing near the left faceoff circle in the Predators offensive end, Halischuk dropped the gloves with Oilers forward Sam Gagner at 15:22 of the middle frame.
After the game, and a 6-2 loss when all was said and done, Halischuk didn’t have much to say about his first fight. “That stuff happens. It’s just part of the game. We decided to go off the face off, and that’s pretty much about it — just trying to get some energy going for the team. We kind of looked at each other and decided to go,” he said.
The two Ontario natives match up well against each other. Gagner is listed at 5’11, 195 pounds. Halischuk is an inch taller, but 10 pounds lighter.
The fight was not only Halischuk’s first professional fight, but he had never dropped the gloves and fought during his junior career, either.

Bouillon has been back in the lineup for 12 games now, and the team is 7-2-3 in those games. As many of his peers mentioned, he has stabilized the defense and made everyone else’s job easier.On...

Ryan Suter may have summed it up best in his post game quote: “We sh*t the bed” (awesome job from Jim Diamond [@diamondhockey on Twitter] for that gem).
Nashville allowed 3 goals in the first, had a great second period outshooting Edmonton 18-7 but failing on a 5-on-3 and another powerplay, and finally allowing 3 more goals in the...
Oilers beat the Predators 6-2
The fun Oilers team came out to play against the Nashville Predators, but this about face only keeps fans and likely coaching staff guessing on a daily basis. After the Oilers were outmuscled by the Dallas Stars, Taylor Chorney was re-assigned to Oklahoma City and Alex Plante was recalled. At the same time, Magnus Paajarvi and Ben Eager drew back into...
The Edmonton Oilers play against the Stars tonight in Dallas. Please insert your random Sheldon Souray jokes here.
Actually, Souray has been no joke. The Stars, up until about ten days ago, looked like a pretty solid team. At one time about three weeks ago, the Stars and Oilers were battling it out as points leaders in the Western Conference.
So what happened?
A few days off for the Minnesota Wild could be a bad thing for the Nashville Predators tonight at Xcel Energy Center.
