from Frank Seravalli of Frequent Flyers, Last night at the St. Pete Times Forum, Scott Hartnell was at the center of one of the most bizarre fights you will see in today’s NHL. The way Hartnell and Lightning forward Ryan Malone were swinging their sticks at each other, you would have thought one was Dr. Hook from “Slap Shot” and the other was jousting like Racki from the Thunder Bay Bombers in “Youngblood.” It was old fashioned, quick-moving, and puzzling, all at the same time. The end result was a 10-minute misconduct for each player, with possible supplementary discipline to come today. It all started during a television timeout with 7:28 to play in the second period. As Hartnell describes it, he was standing at the face-off circle waiting for play to resume when the melee started. “I was there at the TV timeout, on the left wing, and I was right in front of the bench. Their coach [Guy Boucher] looked up and started yapping at me,” Har...

EA Sports predicts Winter Classic outcome

EA SPORTS, as always, conducted a simulation between the two teams who will collide at the annual Winter Classic. While not entirely accurate, of course, it’s always worth a gander at what video simulation says based on the information used in the process, such as statistics, injuries and momentum, to name a few. Action of the EA SPORTS simulation between the New York Rangers...

Frank Seravalli of the Daily News reported today what has been rumored for the last few weeks- James Van Riemsdyk may be playing through an injury. Well, two injuries; a “banged up” knee and a “cam impingement” in his hip. Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren denied both injuries, but they would explain JVR’s minimal production through the [...]

On Jaromir Jagr’s polarizing return to Pittsburgh with Flyers

Since he was traded on July 11, 2001, Pittsburgh Penguins fans have had a love/hate relationship with Jaromir Jagr. Half of them despise him for the infamous "dying alive" quote and the way he left town (though Jagr claimed in 2008 he was trying to help the then-financially-strapped organization). The other half remember his dazzling goal in Game 1 of the 1992 Stanley Cup...

Flyers-Lightning Preview

The Philadelphia Flyers have lost more than two road games to only one team over the past year and a half. The lowly Tampa Bay Lightning could become the second. The Flyers hope the holiday break helps get them going back in the right direction as they face the Lightning on Tuesday night. Philadelphia had the Eastern Conference's most road points last season and currently has...
