Got some good news, gang...The Namesake is back on the ice already.

Helm is feeling so much better, that he took to the ice at this morning's skate.

"Before I came in today, I wasn't even sure when I could get back on the ice." --Darren Helm

But get back on the ice he did.  That quote came to us via The Detroit News.

More on Helm's somewhat imminent return.

Helm has been out the past eight games which has seen Detroit post a 4-3-1 record.  His speed has been greatly missed on the forecheck and the PK.

"I thought it was great, and it's always good for the player to get back on the ice. We could really use Helmer, as everyone knows who's been watching us," Babcock said. "We're not near as good a team without him. We don't have anywhere near the depth. We don't come at you as hard."
--Mike Babcock

High praise from the head coach...but well warranted.

This news comes on the heels of the return of Johan Franzen...not from injury...but the depths of invisible-ness.  I myself remember saying (out loud...to no one) last night during the second period that Franzen was "different...just not the same player anymore".  Then he ended up giving NOHS Chris's man-crush, Inglorious Backes the stink palm and playing like a man possessed in the third and overtime...he looked like play-off Franzen, like the Mule of old.  He got his mind right.

Helm is getting his mind right too:

"I'm still a ways a way, I think. But it definitely helps a lot, mentally." --Darren Helm

Like that transition?  I thought it was good.

Come back soon, 43.
