It sounds like Bruins defenseman Shane Hnidy is close to being activated from long-term injured reserve, and could be pressed into action for tonight’s game in Boston against the New Jersey Devils (34-34-4, 72 pts). Hnidy, who played for Boston from 2007 to 2009, last played in the NHL last season with the Minnesota Wild. Hnidy was signed to add veteran grit and depth to the Bruins’ defense corps, and as a solid, stay-at-home player, he has the chance to help a defense that has been flailing, allowing goals at a faster clip in the past six games than they had all season. Who sits? Steve Kampfer is already in-and-out since Andrew Ference returned last week from an upper-body injury, and the most likely to feel the pinch with Hnidy cracking the lineup would be Andy McQuaid or Johnny Boychuck.
