Last week's edition of Hockey Fights of the Week featured several lopsided bouts. If your thirst for beatings was quenched last week, you'll be happy to know things are bit more balanced this week. Ready to judge some close scraps? Of course you are.  5. Brandon Mashinter (NYR) vs Wayne Simmonds (PHI) - Oct 24 This fight has some pretty incredible moments. First, it took a pretty long time to develop. Simmonds threw several punches before even dropping his mitts. Once things got rolling, Simmonds tumbled to the ice, stood up and knocked Mashinter's helmet off like something you'd see in a cartoon.  4. Zack Kassian (VAN) vs Chris Stewart (STL) - Oct 25 Stewart has struggled offensively and we imagine he's probably pretty frustrated. Here he unleashes some of that frustration on poor Kassian. Other fights in this week's installment are close, but Stewart is the clear winner in this one.  3. Eric Nystrom (NSH) vs Nate Prosser (MIN) - Oct 22 ...

Max Talbot Blogs About Injury in French, Here’s the Translated Version

After a gruesome injury in the Flyers’ 2-1 win over the Rangers last Thursday, Max Talbot skated off the ice while Flyers fans held their breath. However, it seems he was lucky — or just very good at instincually protecting himself. As Talbot explains, he shockingly did not  suffer a concussion, and only missed time to recover from a messed up nose and some muscle aches. You...

Divine Intervention May Be the Cause of the Flyers’ Recent Wins

As I reported last week, Flyers owner Ed Snider was in Rome during the Flyers’ 7 day break. Above you can see Snider and his wife meeting with the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis. Perhaps Pope Francis put in a word for the Flyers with the big man upstairs, because since that meeting the Flyers have won both of their games — including 5 goals in Saturday night’s...

Having scored three goals, Flyers go for three straight wins

Vincent Lecavalier netted a hat trick in the Flyers 5-2 win on Saturday and now leads the team with four goals this season. Photo Courtesy of ESPN.com The Flyers just followed a week off with wins on Thursday and Saturday. On Saturday, in their 10th game of the season, they broke the trend of scoring two goals or less, beating the Islanders, 5-2.  With that blemish removed following...

Putting On The Foil with @jsaquella: This And That: Rinaldo, Giroux and Mason

Editors’ Note: Noted Philadelphia Flyers fan John Saquella is going beyond 140 characters. The man most of you probably know from social media as @jsaquella will bring you his wide-ranging opinion and commentary on the Orange and Black in his column Putting On The Foil. Duck and Cover: Flyers fall on another late goal

Kyle Palmieri scores his second goal of the game in a 3-2 Flyers loss to the Ducks on Tuesday. Photo Courtesy of ESPN.com For the first 20 minutes, the Philadelphia Flyers played like a determined team, a team that had turned the corner on the worst start in franchise history. But as the energy disappeared, the Flyers quickly reverted back to old ways. The Anaheim Ducks would rally...

Lecavalier hat trick lifts Flyers over Islanders

Thomas Hickey hooked him like a fish in Long Island sound. Vinny Lecavalier went down hard on the ice -- without a call from the official. “After I fell down, I didn’t see, but I got back up and G (Claude Giroux) made a great play back onto my stick,” Lecavalier said, describing what became his hat-trick goal that iced a 5-2 rout of the Isles at Nassau Coliseum. Giroux...

Flyers All-Time Team

Over their forty-six year history the Philadelphia Flyers have won two Stanley Cups and have displayed an immense amount of talent at all positions. Flyers 'lucky' to be close in standings

Despite an awful start, the Flyers enter Tuesday’s game against visiting Anaheim just five points out of a playoff spot _ and with two games in hand on Carolina, the team holding that position. “Our division has been struggling at the start of the year,” center Sean Couturier said after Tuesday’s morning skate at the Wells Fargo Center. “We’re lucky we’re in that situation...

Flyers blow two-goal lead in 3-2 loss to Ducks

Once again, an awful third period doomed the enigmatic Flyers. They blew a two-goal lead and had their modest two-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Anaheim Ducks at the boo-filled Wells Fargo Center. With the loss, the Flyers fell to 3-8, their worst record in franchise history at this juncture. Kyle Palmieri's tip-in, his second goal...

Duck, Duck, Lose: Flyers’ Win Streak Ends at Two After Loss to Anaheim

Despite a first period that showed some promise, the Flyers were unable to hold off the Anaheim Ducks and saw their first loss in three games. Matt Read and Vinny Lecavalier were responsible for the two Philadelphia goals, while Kyle Palmieri scored two and Andrew Cogliano also scored for Anaheim. The Flyers got off to a slow start in the first period, but once Read opened up the...
