Last week was the opening weekend of the 2013-2014 AHL season, which saw the Hogs on the road facing the Texas Stars and San Antonio Rampage. The Hogs split the opening two games, losing 3-1 to San Antonio and defeating the Stars 4-3.  Rockford was striken with injury just 5:26 into period one of the opening game, when starting goaltender Antti Raanta came out of the game. Alex Broadhurst scored his first pro goal on Friday with the Adam Clendening and Brad Mills getting the assists. The Rampage were to hot to handle with Jon Matsumoto getting two goals, which included a PP tally, while Alex Petrovic added an empty netter to hold off the Hogs 3-1. Goalie Kent Simpson set a team record stopping 49 of 51 shots that the Rampage threw at him. Clendening lead the team with 3 points in the opening weekend. Before their tilt with the Texas Stars Rockford recalled goalie Mac Carruth to replace the injured Raanta, with Simpson getting his first start of the season. The Hogs would find themselves down early in the first with Travis Morin and Curtis McKenzie getting goals for the Stars, however the Hogs would tie it up at the end of 20 minutes with Jeremy Morin and Adam Clendening getting the tallies, and Froese, Clendening, Mills, and Pirri adding the assists. Rockford would get theri first lead of the season on Klas Dahlbeck first goal of the season, getting a feed from Danault and McNeil. Rockford would add one more at 18:24 with Mark McNeil getting his first of the season on Phillip Danault’s second point of the night. Kent Simpson would stop 41 of 44 shots and earn first and the Hogs first win of the season. The Hogs are back in action Friday and Saturday as they travel to take on the Lake Erie Monsters. This will be the first two games of a total of four between the two teams. Puck drop will be at 6:30 pm on Friday and 6 pm on Saturday. The Hogs home opener is on October 19 vs Grand Rapids.
