Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland likes to describe his job as winning today with an eye always on tomorrow. Its a simple philosophy to manage by, and nobody does it better than Holland -- even if he makes a mistake or two along the way. With the reacquisition of defenseman Kyle Quincey from Tampa Bay on Tuesday, Holland corrected one of his few miscalculations. He gave up Detroits first-round pick in this years NHL Entry Draft and minor-league defenseman Sebastien Piche to get Quincey. Back in 2008, the Wings had two promising, young defensemen on their roster, Kyle Quincey and Derek Meech, who were out of options. One was going to make the team and the other would be sent to Grand Rapids if he cleared waivers, which was an unlikely scenario. Detroit kept Meech, and Quincey was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Kings. Since that time, Quincey has developed in to a top-four defenseman, while Meech flounders in the Winnipeg Jets system. Quincey, 26, was orig...

Come On Home, Son And Bring That Serial Killer With You

Tick Tock Kenny Holland has told us all he made a mistake when he waived Kyle Quincey.  Three years later, because it’s the Winged Way, he’s brought him back to Hockeytown.  That’s what Holland does, you know.  He lets them go with a promise that if they behave and improve and drop him a BFF text now and again? A spot will open up and it’s home again, home again. Quincey’s...

Kyle Quincey, after Avalanche-Lightning deal, winds up with Detroit Red Wings

Quincey returns for 1st-round pick

The Red Wings got help from one former player to acquire another as they take aim at the Stanley Cup. The Wings added toughness to their blue line Tuesday by acquiring defenseman Kyle Quincey from Tampa Bay for Detroit's first-round pick in the June draft.

Avs trade Kyle Quincey for Tampa's Steve Downie in three-team deal with Detroit

The Avalanche bolstered its forward corps and decreased the log jam on defense today by acquiring forward Steve Downie from the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenseman Kyle Quincey.

Let’s hear it for small-market hockey

The Avalanche jettisoning of defenseman Kyle Quincey and adding of winger Steve Downie in the three-team trade Tuesday can be justified in the competitive sense. I get that. Colorado had a numbers issue on defense and needed more grit, or at least grit with some talent accompanying it, at forward. But two additional things jumped out at me, and I couldn’t resist saying them from...

The Quincey-Downie trade: who won?

Getty Images I think the Avalanche did. In case you missed the news – and I did at first because, well it was a day off and I was actually taking a nap when it happened (hey, I need a little sleep now and then, get off my @!#) – the Avs dealt Kyle Quincey to Tampa Bay today for forward Steve Downie. TB then flipped Quincey to Detroit for a first-round pick. First off, why I think...

Yzerman’d Again, eh Dater?

Despite what George might write about me, I don’t blast away to intentionally rile the unwashed.  If a little angst on their part is a byproduct? I have no problem with that.  The whole idea behind A2Y has always been to write like we talk and speak what we think.  Because it’s fun.  So, because we do this for fun, I’ll tell you that if you click the “continue reading”...

Source: Wings land D Quicey in 3-team trade

The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded right wing Steve Downie to the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Kyle Quincey, a source confirmed to ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun.

Red Wings Recap 2.23.2012

I'm bitter. Howard played great and line 1c was incredible, but all the talk will be about Vancouver snapping the streak. Whatever.Full recap after the jump: The icing call was terrible and it cost the Wings the game. Plain and simple. Still, if the whole team had played well, it wouldn't have mattered. Franzen seemed bored out there on the PP and the fact that he was...
