We’re only a couple games into the season and we’ve been able to identify some players who are off to hot starts and some that are already going chilly. Normally we’ll give three forwards, two defensemen and two goaltenders on each side of the fence. Let’s take a look and see who’s already setting the ice on fire with Marian Hossa leading the way. Hot Forwards Marian Hossa of Chicago has four goals in his first two games and is tied with Thomas Vanek of Buffalo for the league lead in points with five. Hossa gets the nod over Vanek since Hossa did it in two games while Vanek had just one killer game. Vladimir Tarasenko of the Blues has torn it up with three goals and two assists to get to the five-point plateau. The rookie made the team on the final cut and that was definitely the right decision. Daniel Winnik of the Ducks is the player least likely to be here but it’s hard to knock four goals in his first two games. The Ducks have been hot with 12 scores in their first two outings a...

Hossa has "special" night in Chicago's win over Phoenix

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Marian Hossa treated the game against Phoenix as if it were just another date, but his Chicago teammates knew it meant more. "Going back to last year, what happened, this is a special night for him to come back and put points up. It was great for him," Blackhawks center Dave Bolland said. Hossa had two goals within three minutes of each other against...

Torres watches, reflects as Hossa scores twice

GLENDALE, Ariz. Raffi Torres could only watch as Marian Hossa turned the Coyotes home opener in the Blackhawks favor with a give-and-go goal in the second period Sunday night at Jobing.com Arena. Maybe you believe that was karma. Nine months earlier, Torres may have turned a first-round playoff series in the Coyotes favor when he leveled Hossa with an open-ice hit that drew a 25...

Vanek has 2 goals, 3 assists in win

A nine-month layoff, courtesy of the NHL lockout, wasn't long enough to disrupt the chemistry between the Buffalo Sabres' top two linemates, Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville. Vanek scored twice and added three assists, and Pominville had three assists in leading the Sabres to a 5-2 season-opening win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday afternoon. ''Ah, they...

Vanek helps lead Sabres past Flyers

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Thomas Vanek hardly looked like a man who hadn't played NHL hockey in nine months. Vanek had five points (two goals, three assists) to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday in the First Niagara Center. Tyler Myers scored the winning goal with just over five minutes remaining and Cody Hodgson gave the Sabres some breathing...
