How much pressure are the Edmonton Oilers feeling after Game 1 loss?
© Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports

While it is just the second game of the series, there is some uneasiness surrounding the Edmonton Oilers.

After a strong performance in the first round, beating the Los Angeles Kings in five games, the Oilers had a great opportunity to take Game 1 against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night. They were up 4-1 in the second period but led the Canucks to take the game over and ended up losing 5-4.

While there has been a lot of finger-pointing into what went wrong, goals given up by Stuart Skinner, Connor McDavid looking average, or some other factors, there is some added pressure heading into Game 2 on Friday.

Pressure has been a constant with this Oilers team, with all the star power throughout the lineup. Yet, after such a disappointing loss, the dial has been turned up to 11.

On Friday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk gave their thoughts on how the Oilers are feeling heading into Game 2.

Frank Seravalli: I was in that locker room after [Game 1]. I’ve seen teams getting absolutely stunned in a playoff game, blowing a three-goal lead, and it was like nothing happened. If they do go down 2-0 to the Vancouver Canucks, I don’t think [the Oilers] are shaking in their boots, I really don’t. That said, it doesn’t mean you come in and not have urgency or take them lightly…I think they have this confidence about them that they’re going to be in fine shape.

They didn’t really play well but still had a 4-1 lead. I just think Connor McDavid’s not having a shot on goal in a playoff game—that’s never happened before—means he is not going to get a shot in Game 2. I don’t think they’re feeling any pressure, it’s kind of amazing how that one game has flipped this perspective in Vancouver’s favor.
