This 'How to Beat the Goalie' story will be going over Joey MacDonald, the backup goalie to Jimmy Howard going into the First Round series. If you want to see Jimmy Howard's 'How to Beat the Goalie' story is, scroll on down the page.

How to Beat the Goalie: Joey MacDonald

Joey MacDonald - Detroit Red Wings v Pittsburgh Penguins

Joey MacDonald is going to be the backup goalie to Jimmy Howard in Game 1. MacDonald will only be in net if Howard has a bad game or an injury. If MacDonald was to start in a game, that would be a huge plus for the Nashville Predators because they play well against him. By the way, Joey MacDonald has never played in an NHL playoff game.

Joey MacDonald suffered a back injury March 17 against the San Jose Sharks. Now he is 100% and ready to go when needed. With the back injury MacDonald suffered, it had to mess around with his mechanics. A goalie has to use his back/shoulders to control his movement.

Watch for Joey MacDonald to stretch his back in Pre-Game Warm-Ups by bending back.

March 10, the Nashville Predators played Joey MacDonald at the Bridgestone Arena. In that game, MacDonald allowed three goals and stopped 17 of 20 shots. The last time he started and completed a game was March 14 where he got the loss and allowed four goals and stopped 20 of 24 shots against the Anaheim Ducks. MacDonald's record in his last five games is 1-4-0.

Here is how the Nashville Predators will score on Joey MacDonald in the series, if they face him.

  • Joey MacDonald doesn't have the best stick-handling. Watch for the Predators to crash behind the net, hard.

  • The Nashville Predators need to just throw things on net. Somehow the weirdest shots go into back of the net.

I will be updating this story if Joey MacDonald has a chance of playing. I will tweet it.

NHL playoffs begin, Helm's return on track

Detroit -- The Red Wings are very close to being back to full health. Darren Helm, who missed the last 10 games of the regular season with a knee injury, could return for Game 1 of the first-round series against the Nashville Predators. "Slight possibility, hopefully if it feels really good tomorrow I'll go, if not then our goal was Game 2 or 3 anyway," Helm said...

I’ll take the Detroit Red Wings in five

Yes, FIVE.  Sure, many people love the Nashville Predators, and some even have them going to the Stanley Cup Finals, but the Red Wings are being underestimated once again.  With a finally healthy team accompanied with a plethora of playoff experience, the Red Wings will win this series quicker than most would think. Nashville has vastly improved over the last several years, building...

Detroit Red Wings road to the Stanley Cup begins with hot Nashville team in Round 1

The Detroit Red Wings quest for the Cup begins... After an up and down season, the Detroit Red Wings finally know who they will be facing in the first round of the NHL Playoffs.  The Nashville Predators welcome the Red Wings to the Music City, and believe me, both teams are built for long runs.  After an entire 82 game season, the Wings take a modest 4-4-2 record into the playoffs...

The greatest NHL upset of the last 20 years

The NHL playoffs are upon us, and that means we are about to enter into 2 1/2 months of exciting bliss.  There is no better sport that has 7 game series than hockey.   Unlike the NBA, upsets always have, and the 8th place team has a legit shot at winning the Stanley Cup.   All it takes is a goaltender to get hot for a few weeks, and an unsung hero to come out of nowhere to have...

Red Wings Playoff Preview: Round 1

If the Red Wings "flip the switch" in this series, it could be over in 4. If they don't "flip the switch" in this series, it could be over in 4. I'm going to avoid the urge to predict which team will show up because there's just no way for me to tell. Instead, I'll look at stats and head-to-head match ups to see if we can figure out how this series...

Can The Wings Beat Rinne?

Paul for George… from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, When the Red Wings open their series against the Nashville Predators on Wednesday, they face one of the game’s biggest goaltenders—Rinne is 6-feet-5. What’s a moderately size team to do? “He really big, and he really kind of tall when he is in net, and he kind of really fast, too,” Pavel Datsyuk said...

NHL Playoffs: Nashville Predators v Detroit Red Wings Preview and Prediction

Nashville-Detroit is another matchup that will be a great series but for different reasons than the four/five matchup in the East. It’s also another case of how unfortunate it is to lose one of these teams in the first round. The Nashville Predators' Shea Weber (By Dan4th Nicholas from Cambridge, MA, USA via Wikimedia Commons) Detroit got off to a great start this season and...

Wanted- One Moody Mule

from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, To succeed against as big and physical an opponent as the Predators, the Wings need Franzen to play with fire. It’s a rare player who performs at a consistently high level all season (his name: Nicklas Lidstrom), but Franzen is one of those guys who can be frustrating to watch when he doesn’t use his size to bulldoze opponents...

Everyone Practiced

George improving but Paul still here… Babcock says Helm looks good, Helm says not there yet… from Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, Everyone, right down to Darren Helm, was on the ice. Helm wore a grey “no touching” jersey, because he’s only just begun his comeback from a sprained MCL. But—but, but, but—he probably won’t be in grey for much longer. He...
