(Photo by: Mike Munden/AP) Acquired in a trade from the Atlanta Thrashers prior to the trade deadline, it appears Kari Lehtonen has found a good fit with the Dallas Stars organization. The Helsinki, Finland native has suffered from injuries, however, which has set back his growth and development as an NHL superstar goaltender quite a bit. Earlier this season, Lehtonen missed five games in between February 17-26, including a matchup against the Nashville Predators with a gron injury. Going back to last season, Lehtonen suffered a groin injury in late November that sat him out for an entire month. Obviously, the groin has been, is and will be a problem for him, which can effect his mental state about whether or not he will make that extra reach for the puck or not. At 6'4", Lehtonen can take up a good portion of the net. He likes to go behind the net and play pucks often, similar to Pekka Rinne, which is the reason he is one of the top active goaltenders with the most assists in the NHL. Also, he has solid mobility and recovery.  However, there are a couple of flaws in his game. At times, rebounds will pop out into the slot, also known as prime scoring position. If a player flinches a little bit, Lehtonen will go to his knees immediately instead of waiting for the shot. Here is how to beat Kari Lehtonen. Let him make the first mistake: Again as said earlier, a player can easily fool Lehtonen into dropping to his knees thinking a shot will be coming his way. A little fake is all he needs before the upper part of the net is open. High glove side: Lehtonen's glove hand is too slow to bring it up to his right ear. A good shot in that area will get through because his glove his too low. Make him move side-to-side: Yes, Lehtonen has good movement, but he isn't quick enough to get post to post in time to stop a shot coming back door. With his size, it should be fairly easy.   Kari Lehtonen's career vs Nashville Name W L OT SO SV% GAA #32 Kari Lehtonen 9 4 1 0 .929 2.23 Kari Lehtonen's 2012-13 stats Name W L OT SO SV% GAA #32 Kari Lehtonen 5 4 0 0 .929 2.00

Roussel an unsung hero for Stars thus far

In the final minute of Thursday's 5-2 win by the Dallas Stars over the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center, Antoine Roussel scored his fifth goal of the season for Dallas, flipping in an empty netter, to cap the night's scoring. But besides the fact that the French-born winger already has found the back of the net five times, which ranks him...

Stars look to captialize on long home stretch

FRISCO, Texas-- With a 5-4-1 record at American Airlines Center so far this season, the Dallas Stars' home record isn't quite where second-year head coach Glen Gulutzan would like it to be. However, the Stars will have plenty of opportunities to better their mark at the American Airlines Center as nine of their next 11 games will be at home, including the start of a four...

Mike Fisher vs Stephane Robidas – Mr. Carrie Underwood Bloodies Punk’s Mouth

Color me shocked that Mike Fisher vs Stephane Robidas last night in Dallas ended with Mr. Carrie Underwood opening up a can of whoop ass on Robidas’s mouth. How rare is it for Mike Fisher to fight now that he needs to have a pretty red carpet face? Pretty rare. Last night was Mr. Underwood’s first brawl of 2012-13. He had one in 2011-12; three over last three years (three since...

AHL, CHL report and the Week Ahead 3/11-3/17

One of those losses was in the shootout so they did manage at least one point. Jack Campbell and Cristopher Nilstorp split starts last week and both guys struggled. Campbell was pulled midway through the second period of his start after allowing...

Bill Meltzer: Star Gazing: Two Defensive Breakdowns Prove Costly

The Dallas Stars played a solid enough road game in Phoenix last night to stay competitive against the Coyotes but a pair of defensive breakdowns proved costly in a 2-1 loss that snapped the Stars' two-game mini winning streak. Kari Lehtonen had no prayer of stopping either goal, as Phoenix build a 2-0 lead by the middle stages of the game. On the first goal, gifted Coyotes...

Mike Augello: Leafs Q & A - March 11th Edition

It’s time to check my Twitter account and field some questions from the members of Leafs Nation regarding their team and players they might be interested in acquiring before April 3rd. Q: ‏@WhyGoneGin asks - How interested would the leafs be in Brenden Morrow if Dallas becomes a seller? If so, would J.M Liles for Morrow be plausible? The 34 year old Morrow is in his...
