(Photo by: Jim Prisching/AP) Steve Mason is looking to repeat his rookie season success, but have been able to do so in the past three seasons and is about to make it four. Mason is constantly under pressure in Columbus by the organization--and even fans who send death threats--to perform. At the start of the season the goaltending situation was in favor of Mason starting, but by this time and the hot streak by Sergei Bobrovsky, it is no longer the case. The fans of the Blue Jackets had high hopes for the Oakville, Ontario native after winning the Calder Trophy for best rookie of the year. However, he has refused to living up to expectations due to the lack of mental focus. Last season, possibly the most embarrassing situation for a goaltender, Mason was wearing the wring sized pads. Supposedly, his pads were too big for him, which limits mobility. At 6'4", Mason can use his size well and it helps when having good  positioning and angles to the puck. However, he tends to leave some space open to his blocker side in which any player would be able to score at. Here is how to beat Steve Mason. Blocker side: Again, his angles is a little off blocker side and he can't move his blocker quick enough. 5-hole: Because Mason has a wide stance when challenging the shooter, it leaves a big gap for the five hole before dropping the knees.
