The Carolina Hurricanes say defenseman Justin Faulk will miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained knee ligament. The team disclosed Faulk's diagnosis Wednesday and said the second-year defenseman will not need surgery. He was hurt midway through the second period of Tuesday night's 4-1 loss to the Florida Panthers. He suffered a second-degree sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee when he collided with Jack Skille behind the net. Faulk has three goals, seven assists and 11 penalty minutes for the Hurricanes. Three Carolina defensemen were injured during the first two periods of the loss to Florida, but Faulk was the only one who didn't return.

With Faulk out, Canes' defense faces test

Playing 48 games in 99 days was bound to make this NHL season a test of attrition. For the Carolina Hurricanes, that idea took on a new grimness and immediacy when the team announced on Wednesday that defenseman Justin Faulk, who leads the Hurricanes in average time on ice per game, would miss the next two to four weeks with a second-degree sprain of his MCL. Already playing without...

Justin Faulk Out With Sprained MCL

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that defenseman Justin Faulk has been diagnosed with a second-degree sprain of the medial collateral ligament (MCL). Surgery will not be required for the injury, and he is expected to be out two-to-four weeks.

Replacing the irreplaceable

If losing four games in a row wasn't bad enough, Hurricanes fans also received news that the team's best defenseman, Justin Faulk, will miss the next 2-4 weeks with an MCL sprain. The Hurricanes have been destroyed by injuries for most of the season, but I have a feeling that Faulk's absence might have the most impact on the team. I know this sounds like an overreaction...

3 Hurricanes defensemen hurt vs. Florida

Three Carolina Hurricanes defensemen were hurt Tuesday night during a game against the Florida Panthers. Bobby Sanguinetti appeared to take a skate to the face, and Justin Faulk sustained an apparent right leg injury shortly before Tim Gleason was hit with a high stick. Faulk was hurt midway through the second period when he collided with Jack Skille behind the net and hobbled...

Eric Selleck vs Kevin Westgarth – Selleck KO’d In 1st NHL Game & Fight

Welcome to the NHL, Eric Selleck. The 25-year-old tough guy made his NHL debut last night at Carolina and nearly made it through the Panthers 4-1 win without getting knocked out. Selleck decided he wanted to make a splash in his first game with 2:58 remaining by picking a fight with Kevin Westgarth. Wrong move, rookie. Two punches later and Selleck needed to find the game highlights...

Struggles continue for listless Hurricanes

RALEIGH, NC --- Being forced to wait for a long time on a plane in Newark, N.J., late Monday night did nothing to enhance the Carolina Hurricanes' chances of defeating the fledgling Florida Panthers at PNC Arena on Tuesday night. While the 'Canes waited for their plane to be de-iced, the Panthers were already in Raleigh resting comfortably for Tuesday's game. That...

The team also placed defenseman Joe Corvo on injured reserve retroactive to March 16 as part of a series of moves announced Thursday before its game against New Jersey. Ruutu will make his season debut after sitting out...

Game 28 Inside the Numbers: Hurricanes at Rangers

Hurricanes head coach Kirk Muller opted to shake things up a bit after the team's bad loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday night by jumbling the lines a little bit. He took Jeff Skinner off the second line with Jordan Staal and placed him with Riley Nash & Jussi Jokinen while Patrick Dwyer and Drayson Bowman were moved up to the second line with J. Staal. The Canes got barely anything...

Time to Panic?

The roller coaster ride that is the Carolina Hurricanes 2013 season has gone down yet another slope as the team has lost their last four game and are really starting to feel the heat of the Winnipeg Jets and the rest of the Eastern Conference. After their most recent showing against the Florida Panthers where they lost 4-1 and gave up 44 shots on goal, I asked the question of whether...
