Hurricanes place G Ward on injured reserve

The struggling Carolina Hurricanes have placed goalie Cam Ward on injured reserve with a sliced left leg. The Hurricanes made a pair of moves before Wednesday night's game against Los Angeles. They called up defenseman Bryan Rodney from their AHL affiliate in Albany to fill Ward's roster spot. They also said defenseman Joni Pitkanen probably wouldn't skate against the Kings because of an undisclosed illness.
