The Carolina Hurricanes signed defenseman Jay Harrison to a three-year contract extension. Team president and general manager Jay Rutherford said the $4.5 million contract was earned through Harrison's consistency. "Jay developed into a consistent, steadying presence for our defense," he said. "He is capable of providing both physicality and offense, and we are happy to have him under contract for the next four seasons." Harrison led Hurricanes' defensemen with nine goals and had 14 assists in 72 games. Harrison, 29, was second on the team in blocked shots (132) and was nominated for the NHL's Bill Masterston Trophy for sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. He was drafted in the third round of the 2001 draft by Toronto and signed with Carolina in 2009.

Having so many centers available in your top-six can be both a blessing and a curse because it's good to have a lot of versatile players but at your disposal but at the same time, it makes it tough for...

The reason for this is because goaltending performance tends to be very random over the course of time and the difference between the eighth best goalie and twentieth is usually very small in any given league. That and a top goalie in one league doesn...
