If there ever was a stretch of games that defined the entire season for the Blackhawks, its the Circus Trip.  This stretch of games in mid-to-late November is usually a great barometer of the success of the entire season.  Don't believe me? Check out the records.

2005-06: 2-3-0
2006-07: 1-3-1
2007-08 (weird year where they played Detroit, Columbus, and Nashville before heading west): 2-2-2
2008-09: 3-2-1
2009-10: 4-1-1
2010-11: 4-2-0

These games used to be a total drag.  We had to wait up late to see the Hawks get stomped by teams that nobody really cared about.  That's totally turned on its head in recent years, with the Vancouver rivalry and whatever weird thing they have going on against the Sharks.  The Kings game is always fun now because we get to hear the "Kopitar to the Hawks" rumors.

And for the Hawks right now everything's coming up Milhouse.

After 5chneidering the Canucks without the help of Brent Seabrook, the Blackhawks are riding high.  They're sitting atop the Western Conference with an absurd .711 Point Percentage.  They've shed the albatross contract of Rusty Olsez (leaving them with cap room to go out and acquire just about anybody they want).  Wunderkind Ben Smith has been recalled.  I can't even get very mad about John Scott being in the lineup with all this positivity.

The Flames seem to be a pretty good mirror of the Hawks right now.  They're sitting in last in the Northwest Division and 14th in the Western Conference, mostly thanks to their inability to score goals.  The Flames have been woeful in the Saddledome this year with a 3-5-1 record.  That's just what happens when your only offense comes from Jarome Iginla, Curtis Glencross, and Rene Bourque's unibrow.

On the defensive end the Flames have been solid.  They've got a decent PK and Miikka Kiprusoff is always dependable for them.  But the Hawks offense is going to test just how committed they are on the defensive end.

Corey Crawford gets the start again for the Blackhawks.  Brent Seabrook is out, and Michael Frolik is questionable.  This will be a good chance for the Hawks to put together a solid 60 minute effort.  If they play their game, there's no reason they should lose.
