It hasn't been easy for Ilya Bryzgalov in the KHL. He's been cut from Russia's Channel One Cup roster, and he hasn't been exactly blowing the goaltending thing out of the water either. In a league where goalies aren't known for being the best in the world, Bryz has a .907 SV% and a 2.41 GAA. That isn't tremendous, but the CSKA Moscow goaltender hasn't brought Semyon Varlamov's NHL sparkle to his job. Image courtsey of GoalieStore.com You could be sympathetic towards Bryz if he wanted to escape the limelight. His interesting relationship with the press has continued in Russia, with an interview detailing how his dream was always to go into space appearing in Sports Express. Well, apparently that's the reason why his stats haven't been amazing and why he was cut from the team: space! It's so humangous big! SE: Why are not you on the team? You have really a health problem? IB: Sorry, but, unfortunately, I'm not ready to talk in detail with the press. SE: Why not? IB: The thing is that now I am in the Mission Control Center, you wrote about in our last interview. Astronaut suit on me. And you will understand that it disturbs me to communicate. This is Major Bryz to ground control... maybe he can just amend that lifelong dream to playing for the Gagarin Cup. For this space cadet, that's about as close as he'll be getting to the real thing.
