Washington Capitals forward Alexander Semin was a healthy scratch in Monday’s game against the Coyotes. He didn’t skate in the pregame skate, or the morning skate, and Bruce Boudreau has called him out numerous times the past few weeks. He is in the final year of his contract with the Capitals and has not been playing good hockey this season. He currently has the most penalties on the Capitals, and only scored two goals in the month of Novemeber.
While there is a plethora of teams that would want to pick up Semin when he is a valuable top six forward, his history of problems could deplete his value (an maybe he is isn’t worth the 6.7 million dollars to pick up his contract either…).
You gotta wonder how Semin went from being a 40 goal scorer to sitting in the pressbox. If you look at his career stats, you do see a bunch of inconsistent numbers, but you don’t have to be an expert ...

Is something wrong with Ovechkin?
The Washington Capitals superstar has struggled out of the gate this season -- at least according to the standards he has set throughout his career -- notching 7 goals and recording only 15 total points.
Extreme Makeover: Washington Capitals
Before you think the following is about who the Washington Capitals should trade, know that there is only one person that will fall into that category. For the most part, though, this is about what the Caps can or should do to break out of their funk and get back to playing winning hockey:1. Trade Alex Semin: Let's get the most obvious out of the way first. Semin, who was a healthy...
Capitals Get Zero Points On Three-Game Road Trip
Well…that is definitely not how anyone that is a Capitals fan or any of the players wanted that three-game road trip to go. Three games, three losses, all in regulation. Add an overtime loss to that prior to the trip and the Capitals are on a four-game losing streak. As many Capitals recall from last year, this four-game losing streak is starting to look like that terrible...
Capitals End Their Four-Game Losing Streak
Well the game didn’t start how Bruce Boudreau or anyone in the Capitals organization would have wanted it to. After dropping to 2-0, the Capitals were resilient though and found a way to come back and beat the Phoenix Coyotes 4-3. Hey, I’ll take it after the past week and a half. The Capitals won for the first time in five games and advanced to 11-7-1 on the season. The...

Capital’s Problems Start With Ovechkin
from Mike Wise of the Washington Post, The Washington Capitals have mortgaged their strong start to the season with passion-less play over the past month, exemplified by Saturday night’s listless effort in Toronto. The Caps have lost seven of their last 11 games, mixing in the occasional stand with mucho malaise, so naturally, all the tired cliché are being dragged out...
Semin back for Capitals; Joel Ward scratched for oversleeping
After watching his team flail and flounder for the last two weeks, Washington Capitals Coach Bruce Boudreau took a dramatic step on Monday when he scratched star sniper Alex Semin in a win over the Coyotes.
"He's taken penalties seven games in a row," said Boudreau. "At some point, you have to be accountable for your errors. We don't like doing those things...
Adam French: Final Game of the Road Trip and Semin's Scratched
The season is pretty much at the quarter mark and these two squads are seemingly going in opposite directions. The Washington Capitals are coming off an embarrassing performance against Toronto in which they lost 7-1, after this catastrophic loss the magnifying glass yet again has been turned on Bruce Boudreau. The Caps have lost three straight and are 3-6-1 in their past 10 after...

The Washington Post headline for this morning’s story about the Capitals blared “Lifeless Capitals drop 4th straight”. That’s true, although there are a number of other adjectives that come to mind besides “lifeless”. How about lazy? Or disorganized? Or even sad? In last night’s 7-1 loss at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Washington was all those things...
