Found December 22, 2011 on Puck Daddy:
Darryl Sutter, introduced as the Los Angeles Kings' new head coach this week, is in the first year of a 3-year deal. Kirk Muller, the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, has a 4-year contract. Bruce Boudreau, behind the Anaheim Ducks bench, has the most temporary status of the these new hires: a two-year contract. When coaches are hired, they want a multi-year contract for their own job security and so the players know they're not some substitute teacher walking into the classroom without consequence. Yet in Washington D.C., where a change in coaches was made to change the level of respect and response from the players, Washington Capitals Coach Dale Hunter is only signed through the end of this season. Via Sky Kerstein of CBS Washington: Multiple sources tell 106.7 The FAN and The Washington Times that Dale Hunter signed only a one-year contract.  Sources say this was done for a few reasons.  The first, in case Dale Hunter can't turn this around and the Capitals want...

Ovechkin is 'complete player' in Capitals' win

Alex Ovechkin hasn't been a stranger to physical play this season, oftentimes using hits to try to make a difference in games. With goals not coming as frequently as he would like, though, the Washington Capitals captain made it known that he's paid to score and not just hit. Tuesday ...

John Carlson thinks he’s smart

Lots of agreement from the Capitals here: Mike Knuble is the smartest dude in the dressing room, and John Carlson thinks he’s the smartest dude in the dressing room. Read full article >>

Ovechkin Needs To Bring His Game Every Night

from Tarik El-Bashir of the Washington Post, “When he’s getting scoring chances, hitting, bringing that energy, it fires everybody else up,” defenseman Karl Alzner said after a 4-1 victory, perhaps the Capitals’ most thorough of the Dale Hunter era. “He’s the most exciting guy in the league. “When,” Alzner added after a pause, “he’s on his game.” And there’s...

Karl Alzner: Capitals’ Steal of the Summer?

The signing of Tomas Vokoun at $1.5 million was supposed to be the steal of the summer for the Washington Capitals. But it’s the much younger Karl Alzner’s two-year contract at only $2.57 million this summer that looks like it’s paying off first. Going into training camp this September, Alzner said he wanted to get off to a solid start, unlike the previous season where he...

Rapid Rewind: A Point is a Point

The Washington Capitals were oh so close on Friday night, erasing a pitiful second period with an outstanding third one and clawing a point out of the Devils that they certainly did not deserve throughout the first two thirds of the game.  Brooks Laich and Jason Chimera were the goal scorers, Chimera twice, as the Caps found a way to head into the holiday break with a slightly better...

Capitals Douse Red-Hot Predators 4-1, Break Nashville’s 5-Game Win Streak

Photo Credit: Patrick McDermott/Getty Images When Nashville’s deadly powerplay gets held with no goals on 5 attempts, things may not be looking bright. With goals from Ovechkin, Backstrom, Semin, and Brouwer, the Washington Capitals stopped the Predators cold in their tracks with a 4-1 win, ending Nashville’s 5-game win streak. Lindback took the loss for Nashville making 19 saves...

Capitals' Brooks Laich understands concussions are 'gray area'

On Oct. 14, the morning after Jay Beagle suffered a concussion in a fight with Arron Asham and had to leave the Washington Capitals' game at the Pittsburgh Penguins, Brooks Laich had some pretty pointed comments about the league's protocol process. "I really don't care about that awareness stuff. To ...

Practice: Dec. 22

The Washington Capitals were on ice for a practice Thursday afternoon as they prepare to take on the New Jersey Devils Friday night in Newark.  Some updates from Kettler Capitals Iceplex: Mike Green skated before practice for about 30 minutes and then remained on ice for about 15 minutes into the practice, taking rushes with the other defensemen.  Green looked good in testing...

Capitals-Devils Preview

Consistency has eluded the Washington Capitals for much of this season, but Michal Neuvirth has been very steady lately. The Capitals' backup goaltender is expected to get a chance to continue his strong play Friday night against the New Jersey Devils, who hope the return of Patrik Elias will help them regain their scoring touch. Washington is 8-12-1 in its last 21, posting...

Washington Capitals (17-14-1) at New Jersey Devils (18-14-1), 7 p.m. (ET)

Both the Washington Capitals and New Jersey Devils are making serious pushes in the Eastern Conference. The two clubs will meet tonight in New Jersey looking to pick up another two points before the holiday break.

Capitals earn a point after three-goal third period, fall to the Devils in a shootout

NEWARK, N.J. — A harmless shot from Jason Chimera that Martin Brodeur stopped easily elicited sarcastic applause from a half-hearted New Jersey Devils crowd. That's how bad it was for the Washington Capitals for two periods on Friday night. The third period was the opposite — more like the Caps ...

Awesomely Inappropriate Jersey Makes It On Live TV

During a break in Monday night’s Stars vs Ducks game in Dallas, coach Bruce Boudreau was being interviewed and a Ducks fan seized the opportunity to show off his jersey to the world.  The name on the sweater is questionable in terms of its appropriateness, but it does make for a good laugh. Ducks-Kings Preview

ANDY LEFKOWITZ STATS Writer The Los Angeles Kings hope a change of coaches will turn around what many expected to be a breakout season.
